A horrific Russian strike in the Kharkiv region. A “shahed” struck people directly – in a park near an ordinary café. Pure atrocity. Six people were killed, including children. A little girl was killed in a stroller – her name was Angelina, she was just over a year old, born in August 2025… Her mother’s name was Inna. She died in the hospital… Another girl who was killed was 11 years old. My condolences to their families and loved ones. Another 14 people were injured, including six more children. I am grateful to everyone who supports Ukraine under these circumstances and helps us shoot down “shaheds,” shoot down missiles, and stop Russian assaults. These are horrific photos, but behind them are shattered lives and the truth about this war. Lives must be protected. Ukraine needs air defense. You can't think about making money with Russia as long as it continues its asinine war. We ask that sanctions on Russia stay in place as long as the killings continue. We ask America to be strong, and we ask it to apply the Lindsey Graham law. We ask Europe to continue its support. We ask that everything possible be done to bring peace and guarantee security. Ukraine wants peace. It is Russia that has insisted on continuing the killing all this time. The world has enough strength to stop the war. That strength must finally be used – against the murderers.

After more than 15 years in orbit, @NOAA will be deorbiting the Suomi NPP satellite starting on Dec. 1, 2026. This will be done by gradually lowering its orbit before it reenters Earth’s atmosphere over the South Pacific Ocean. Suomi NPP was a pathfinding mission to demonstrate the capabilities of NOAA's JPSS constellation. The data provided by Suomi NPP are now operationally delivered by NOAA-20 and NOAA-21. After 2 days in close proximity (less than 5 km, possibly much less), Kosmos-2612 moved away from ICEYE X36 on Oct 18 and is now more than 100 km away, according to US Space Force tracking data
Replying to @planet4589 @avrnz
New TLEs show that K2612 made a manuever on Oct 16 and is now stationkeeping within 5 km or less of ICEYE X36. To my knowledge this is the first LEO rendezvous of two active satellites where the owner of one of the sats did not give approval.

Russian milblogger Romanov says that the situation on the R-280 "Novorossiya" highway located in Russia-occupied parts of Ukraine has considerably calmed down in the last two days. "apparently a result of Starlink slowdown," Romanov claims. Until now, the traffic on this road has been constantly targeted by Ukrainian drones.

If we cannot be 100% certain that a technology will be available when we need it most, we cannot trust it at all. That’s how trust works. Either it’s absolute, or it doesn’t exist.

Another new constellation!
.@Globalstar: @FCC OKs our C-3 mobile sat constellation in US for D2D operations. Registered in France, C-3 is 48 sats + 6 in-orbit spares at 1,414 km, connected to 90 6-meter-diameter ground antennas globally. Command/control from Toulouse, France. Sats built by @MDA_space.

Really interesting discussion here of SpaceX's play to become a wireless carrier, the long strange history of how they got the 800 Mhz spectrum rights, and what challenge this may pose for traditional wireless carriers theverge.com/podcast/1012416…

Deutsche Telekom, Orange, Telefónica & Vodafone eye a joint bid for part of the European satellite 2GHz (MSS) spectrum currently held by Starlink and Viasat/Inmarsat, echoing a similar coalition of major MNOs in the US by AT&T, T-Mobile & Verizon where spectrum is to be pooled for D2D services.

Fair to point out Europeans have bought a lot of Russian gas. Less so to omit that European purchases falling (table in € bn) (tho' still a lot!) & aim to end LNG this year—whereas Trump admin rising & now, per NYT, wants Europe to *re-start* purchases.
I hate qualifying arguments like this, but - everyone knows I am about as pro-Ukraine/anti-Russian as it gets. That regularly leads to friction between me and other Republicans, even ones who otherwise align 99%. With that said, whining from Europeans and the American left about America buying $1B in diesel fuel from Russia is so out of touch with reality. The EU has spent over $200B on Russian fuel and is on-track to buy hundreds of billions more. Most of that was purchased by wealthy EU members who can absolutely afford alternatives. xitter.cf/PalmerLuckey/status/20…

President Trump’s decision to waive sanctions against Russia as Putin continues his brutal war of aggression against Ukraine dishonors the legacy of the late Senator Lindsey Graham and is decidedly not in the national interests of the United States and should be reversed. Putin is a war criminal and only understands strength. Waiving Graham Act sanctions on Russia signals weakness at a moment that demands American strength. Now is the time to stand strong against Russian aggression, just as we did during the years of the first Trump Administration. A victory in Ukraine would be a victory for freedom and is squarely in the national interests of the United States. If Putin overruns Ukraine, I have no doubt it will only be a matter of time until Russia’s military crosses a border that our troops will have to deal with him. For the cause of freedom, for America’s national security and that of our allies including Ukraine, President Trump should Restore sanctions under the Graham Act immediately, Rescind the diesel deal with Russia and Rally our Allies to ensure Ukraine has the military support it needs to repel and defeat this Russian invasion once and for all. This comment on Allies not fighting in Afghanistan is shocking and unacceptable. More than a thousand soldiers from NATO and partner nations died in Afghanistan.
Hegseth on Afghanistan: I was a captain in Afghanistan, and we would go to the headquarters in Kabul, and there would be 50 flags at the headquarters. It was a beautiful thing to see 50 different countries contributing to the NATO alliance and the ISAF mission there. Except there were like maybe five that contributed. It was actually closer to one or two that, by the end, were actually involved in kinetic operations. In fact, the ISAF patch, we would joke that it meant "I Saw Americans Fighting."
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
Over 1100 non-American soldiers from 31 US-allied countries were killed fighting in Afghanistan, approximately 1/3 of the total combat deaths. t.co/x4tGhxJiFG

If Musk is responsible for weakening Ukraine's defenses at this critical time, his businesses need to be excluded from any critical infrastructure in Europe. Not as a sanction, but as self-protection.
