The EAVESDROP was originally the area around a house that would be covered by rainwater dripping off the roof. Because someone standing within the eavesdrop would be able to hear what was happening inside the house, the word came to be used to mean ‘to listen secretly’.

Tried all night to update my mobile plan. Was first told by @Bell that the deal was only for NEW customers. Then told by @Rogers that it was only for existing. So moral of the story - too bad you have been a @bell customer since the 1900's. @Bell_Support
