Following yesterday's storm, there are a large number of properties in Cornwall without power. Including Cadgwith, again. It seems as though nothing has been learned from Storm Goretti. Nothing. No food available for residents, just left to fend for themselves

@BBCCornwall, perhaps this needs a bit of traction...

Replying to @ThePacket
@ThePacket. There are communities that remain without power. Apparently there aren't enough engineers to allocate to the job, so yet again these vulnerable people are left to fend for themselves.

This animated map shows a day of actual UK train movements, delays and all! On 19 August 2026 the network peaked at 1,794 trains moving at once. Even around 3am, at least 141 were running. Passenger services wind down, but freight and maintenance keep rolling. Source: buff.ly/0zrhl41

1976 has finally been beaten. For 50 years, it was the benchmark for a hot British summer. Summer 2026 is the UK’s warmest summer on record for mean, maximum and minimum temperatures, while also recording more tropical nights than 1976. metoffice.gov.uk/blog/2026/s…

This summer was the hottest on record. Surpassing the previous hottest, which was last year, by almost half a degree. The top 5 hottest summers have all been since 2000 It was made 130x more likely by man made climate change. 1976 now 7th hottest metoffice.gov.uk/about-us/ne…

South of France today 🌪️🇫🇷 An incredible tornado near Carcassonne this afternoon, developing beneath a powerful supercell. This is a reminder that severe thunderstorms in Europe can produce some seriously violent weather.

The longest line of sight in the U.K. has been seen only a few times, and photographed once. In 2015, Kris Williams was atop Snowdon in Wales, in perfect conditions, and managed to snap The Merrick in Southern Scotland. A remarkable distance of 232km (144 miles).

It really shouldn’t come as a surprise, but some of our best defences against future wildfires is re-wetting dry areas. In the uplands and lowlands. It’s also very effective at preventing flooding, restoring biodiversity and carbon sequestration. theguardian.com/environment/…

You may have received the UK Government wildfire alert. Please take it seriously and help keep 999 lines free for emergencies. Call 999 only if a fire is spreading or threatens life/property. If you see someone having a BBQ or a bonfire, please don't call 999 simply to report it.

Like a furnace out there. 37°C and rising. Anyone who thinks this is normal for the UK or is in any way a good thing is frankly a bloody fool.
