Proud to have completed my 7th official class with the National Public Safety Innovation Academy (NIA) in Winter Haven, Florida, the home of @PolkCoSheriff on the campus of @PolkState. I am honored to have been with the Academy since its inception. The 8-week stem-based executive leadership course is the brain child of Polk County Sheriff #GradyJudd. One of the many perks of the class is real world experiences. Intense, topical, relevant, informative......fun! Some of the words used to describe our most recent #PIO Masterclass hosted by @IrvinePolice. They provided a great venue for a full-day of lecture, multimedia, interactive activities, improv exercises, and the final project, real-world press conference scenarios complete with a hostile media. One of the highlights was the media power panel. Most media panels use only reporters (not all bad), but I prefer exposing PIOs to the decision makers. thanks to @oborraez from @nmasunivision, @belliobellio from @KFIAM640, and @ABC7JulieSone from @ABC7 for giving the class a useful and raw look behind the scenes. I just had to - I'm at restaurant sitting in a booth behind a couple in their 70's. It's their first date. Listening to them talk, getting to know each other, laugh, and reminisce...and not one word about politics. The man picked up the check and the woman said she would be delighted to go on a second date. It all seems so simple.
