I developed AF after decades of following NHS advice to ignore my symptoms and get more exercise. This is what happened after I was diagnosed:

It's important not to get so focused on what's happening in someone's brain that we forget to ask what's happening in their life.

When someone dies by suicide:
"Why didn't they talk to someone?" "What were they thinking?
But when someone tries to open up:
"You're overreacting." "You'll be fine." "You're too sensitive." "That's life get on with it."

NHS CALLED HIM A NUISANCE. A TRIBUNAL CALLED IT A WITCH HUNT.
Andrew Smith spent 28 years as an NHS nurse. Served in the Gulf War. Not a single blemish on his record.
Then he raised concerns at Mid Essex Hospital Services NHS Trust @MSEHospitals about staff being wrongly denied recruitment and retention payments. He pushed. He represented his colleagues. He did exactly what a union rep is supposed to do.
The Trust decided he was a nuisance. They hit him with a disciplinary process. Then they sacked him for gross misconduct.
He took them to tribunal. Won. The judgment described what happened to him as a witch hunt. Senior nursing officers were personally criticised for their conduct.
The Trust appealed. Lost again.
Then came the remedy hearing, where reinstatement should have been the obvious outcome. Instead, a trust manager told the Employment Tribunal that they were worried Andrew might continue raising concerns if he came back.
A manager told a tribunal, out loud, that they did not want their own vindicated employee reinstated because he might keep flagging problems.
He was not reinstated.
Meanwhile, one of the senior nurses found by the tribunal to have mistreated him walked straight into a director role at NHS Improvement. No consequences. A new title. A better salary.
Andrew Smith's children had to use their own savings to keep him and his wife housed. He had been effectively blacklisted from @NHS work, unable to secure positions he was more than qualified for.
He wrote to the National Guardian's Office (@NatGuardianFTSU) asking for help with reinstatement, as they had promised in 2017 to support unfairly dismissed whistleblowers.
They declined to review his case while tribunal proceedings were still ongoing.

Early morning, 8 Feb 2012. My surgeon marked my left leg with an 'L' and arrow to ensure he operated on the correct hip.
Little did I know at this point that shortly upon entering the operating theatre, my 'simple' key-hole hip arthroscopy would become something much more brutal.
Little did I know that my clitoris would be crushed against my pubic bone with such horrific force that my sexual future would be stolen from me.
Little did I know that I would never again feel an orgasm alone or share that beautiful, physical, irreplaceable connection with another human being.
Little did I know that the excruciating, breathtaking ecstasy of touch would be a thing of my past.
Little did I know that being intimate with someone again would be physically and emotionally torturous and leave me in tears out of pure frustration.
To desperately want and need to feel that physically close, yet be unable, makes me feel like I can't breathe, like part of my soul has been ripped away from my body. It's gut-wrenching.
My hip surgery was a non-urgent elective procedure to help with back pain; I didn't sign up for this. I didn't sign up to be mutilated and violated.
It's heartbreaking. It's devastating.
To the surgeons and GPs who knowingly risk our sexual function WITHOUT our consent. You are irresponsible, you are cruel, and you should be ashamed.
YOUR actions are unforgivable, inexcusable and you should be struck off for causing such distressing and avoidable harm.

Cyberattack on France’s national blood service (EFS) via its refrigeration contractor Coolworld. Hackers reset freezers keeping blood donor samples at -30°C to a target of 110°C. The thing that stopped it from destructive impact was an on-call technician who noticed the temperatures going up. Frozen plasma intended for transfusion was stored there too. Fortunately nothing was destroyed. This was a cyberattack on a sensitive layer of healthcare. From frozen peas to boiling plasma in three weeks...?

Good
Why should ordinary workers do extra work for nothing at a time when bankers are raking in millions for doing next to F-all

As a GP over recent years huge numbers of patients who used to meet thresholds for seeing a hospital specialist or having a surgery cannot be seen anymore. All sorts of gatekeeping to keep people out of the system. Too many risks IMO as the needs are real. The gates are closed

JUST IN: Fridges and freezers at some supermarkets in Belgium, Luxembourg and Sweden were hacked overnight.
Hackers changed the temperature settings to as high as 70°C (158°F), causing food to spoil.
The damage is expected to run into the millions.
