Tomorrow, when you see the front pages of the right-wing press telling you how dreadful the budget was, remember their track record.
Also remember that right-wingers won’t ever be happy with any budget that doesn’t push down on those at the bottom to benefit those at the top.

🚨 NEW: Andy Burnham has announced five "everyday fixes" ahead of the Budget
1. Carer's Allowance will be changed so carers no longer lose their entire benefit when they earn over the limit - instead, their support will reduce by £1 for every extra £1 they earn
2. Import tariffs will be removed on more than 100 products, including baked beans, chocolate and gherkins, to save households up to £21 on their food shop a year
3. Tax-free mileage rates for workers using their own cars will be made permanent at 55p per mile for the first 10,000 miles, with the rate for additional miles rising from 25p to 35p
4. Parental pay will be extended to over 150,000 more parents a year, including self-employed fathers and partners
5. Hundreds more Post Office drop boxes will be rolled out to save people queueing at branches
Easy. Bring Back Brown, NEVER let Thatcher near office. Even better if we could go one further and undo the damage she did through privatisation…

The thing is... Keir and Rachel DID fix the foundations.
On growth, NHS, immigration, poverty, public services - they reversed the momentum, turned us around, and now we are moving in the right direction.
Hard yards need hard decisions and they did that

Are we all going to have to reassess the Rachel Reeves narrative…
The UK economy has proved remarkably resilient in the face of Trump’s war on Iran and Labour Budget own goals.
GDP increased by only 0.1 per cent in August, down from a 0.4 per cent rise in July. But June growth revised up to 0.4 per cent from 0.3 per cent previously.
In the quarter to August, GDP rose by 0.7 per cent. In the first half of this year, the UK was the fastest growing economy in the G7 group of rich countries.
So far, so good. The fear now is that August is a harbinger of worse to come.

So Zelensky took out a major Russian bot farm and social media traffic on X and other sites dropped by 50%. HALF of the traffic on social media is nothing but Russian propaganda bots and trolls.
Things that make you go hmmmm.

Few politicians look like they want to be a politician as much as Ed Milliband.
Like his policies or loathe them, he has a real energy of "now I'm in power I can do things" which a lot of parliament just lacks.

Dear @andyburnham,
A £36m donation to Reform
You could have prevented this
You could protect our democracy from being bought like this
So, why did you drop plans to cap donations?
We need you to reverse course on this now
…before it’s too late.
NEW: Reform UK has received a record single donation of £36m from cryptocurrency billionaire Ben Delo in what will be seen as the Americanisation of British political funding.
The astonishing sum comes after Andy Burnham last month dropped his support for capping the amount a person or organisation can give in a single donation. The PM may be regretting that now.

With the heroes of the @RNLI under attack again, I’m reminded of this passage from Bill Bryson.

ALT I had never really stopped to consider what an extraordinary thing the Royal National Lifeboat Institution is. Think about it. A troubled ship calls for help, and eight people - teachers, plumbers, the guy who runs the pub - drop everything and put to sea, whatever the weather, asking no questions, imperilling their own lives, to try to help strangers. Is there anything more brave and noble than that? The RNLI - I looked this up later - is an organization run by volunteers, supported entirely by public donations. It maintains 233 stations around the coast of Britain and averages twenty-two call-outs per day. It saves 350 lives a year on average.

If reform win, these thugs will be patrolling the streets, checking your ID, your sexuality, your gender, your ethnic background all to decide if you’re entitled to be here or not.
We are on a precipice and we need to act.

I find this very true.
The radicalisation of the elderly in Uk is under everyone’s eyes. It is something way beyond the traditional “getting more conservative” with age.
My ex father in law has gone from being a moderate Tory in his 60s to a radicalised-Restore Britain-fanatic in his 80s. And I know his case is quite common.
He now lives in a social-media post-reality entirely built around fear, grievance and identity.
We obsess over young people’s exposure to social media, while overlooking an entire generation of elderly people who entered this world with no immune system against fake news and propaganda.
They spent their lives consuming information through institutions that filtered reality: newspapers, the BBC, television news.
Then the filters disappeared.
The algorithm arrived and suddenly an entire generation could be radicalised inside a reality designed specifically to frighten and enrage them.
We spend a lot of time worrying about young people being radicalised online. But perhaps we’ve been looking in the wrong direction.
I think Britain urgently needs to have a serious conversation about the radicalisation of our grandads one Facebook post, dodgy meme and furious comment section at a time.
