The single best advice I ever got on conversation is “ask questions the other person will enjoy answering” which sounds insultingly obvious, but almost nobody does it, and it instantly makes conversations vastly more fun.

Agency-wide email that had just gone out. I’m not often one to advocate for open non-compliance of NASA policies.
But to all my NASA friends—if you saw something, you saw nothing.

After living in Europe for 16 months, one thing is for sure: SF's reputation is in the gutter. Europeans are confused by my pride for SF, they feel pity for me. And it's not because they've only been persuaded by media. Those with the strongest opinions have visited and seen for themselves.
Unfortunately SF maintains a strict hotel zone centered around Market Street and Union Square where they have also penned in open-air drug dealing, people suffering from mental illnesses and addiction, as well as the homeless. This is what tourists see when they step out of their lobby.
Like a lot of Americans, it completely confounds the European mind that such a rich, powerful and liberal city could contain so many scenes of misery and inhumanity.
Obviously those of us who have spent significant time in SF know the city is much more than this. And most of us are trained to offer reasons for each of these seemingly intractable issues. But I haven't been able to convince anyone here...
Cities are cyclical. I'm only 42 and old enough to remember that people were commonly were afraid to visit NYC, and if you had to, you were warned to carry a wad cash with you to make the mugging efficient. NYC has shed that reputation.
What do you think will be the plot points in the narrative of SF regaining a reputation that is commensurate with its natural beauty, unique architecture, diverse and welcoming culture, and optimism?
A lot of boosters are excited about AI. I don’t see it that way. That may bring workers back to downtown, but from the outside, I think it further binds SF to elitist, anti-social tech. I don’t see a good path that doesn’t start with affordability, for both tourists and locals.

Finally.. so grateful to see AI welfare researcher hired for Anthropic. As someone coming from a transformative justice lens it has been concerning to see how little care or forethought there is for other forms of intelligence / cognition. Am pumped to see what comes of this.

Unrelated, but we're also looking for a house/apartment to rent in the Mission to put some robots in 🤖🤖🤖 (needs to be empty, furnished welcome, ground floor or elevator/easy to bring things in and out of preferable).
DMs open!
I'm looking to hire an exceptional full stack engineer to our early team at @physical_int (we're now 20 people!): physicalintelligence.company…. Ideally you've either founded a company or owned large projects from inception to scale and you're not put off by thorny operational problems

Two iMet-4 radiosonde launches so far from Starbase, and we've just seen the NWS launch from Brownsville. Nothing below 4km as nearest RX is 250km away. Can we get some help from @NASASpaceflight or @Erdayastronaut to set up a RX closer?

I have, perhaps, a dumb question to ask. Two, if you'll indulge me.
Why is the password in every breach something simple? I don't think it's all laziness. I could be wrong but it just seems to me that everyone just assumes it's laziness and that there aren't other factors involved so they never look for any other explanation.
Isn't that also being lazy?
I think if they did and they found it wasn't laziness and in let's say out of every 100 breaches they shared a common reason we could try to fix that problem?
My second question is how are all these orgs that have breaches with simple to guess passwords being part of the foothold which got them jacked, passing audits?
I don't want to sound like I'm holding a grudge but my experience with MSPs that package in cybersecurity compliance training and resources with monthly services don't really know what they're doing all the time.
At what point do they get held accountable for telling a client they passed with flying colors and then six months later we find out the client got hacked and the password is, oh let's live little, rockyou. 😳
I'm not trying to start trouble here but I'm really curious is anybody else out there concerned that this keeps happening and I don't mean from a cyber security perspective I mean from a common sense one.

Running shorter trains at all hours is reducing unwanted activity. There is safety in numbers.
We are also enforcing our code of conduct. If you see drug use, text BPD or use the BART Watch app. You can also move to another car and alert the operator using the call box.

With old BART trains are on their way out I’m feeling so much love and nostalgia for them.
I have so many great memories riding these trains for past 23 years, and will miss seats facing each other.
Excited that next week BART will run nearly all new trains but also a bit sad.

Massively under-reported science story because there's so much going on right now but...it turns out that we might have figured out what's causing this very scary spike.
