Thank you for joining, @Lanier4SF !
I was glad to be on State of the Bay arguing for a federal wealth tax on billionaires instead of a state tax. Billionaires will leave CA, reducing on-going CA income tax rev. And we depend on the top 1% of earners for 30-50% of our tax revenue. How do we know they will leave? High income earners have already proven they are willing to leave: ppic.org/publication/whats-b…

If California’s “billionaire tax” passes, it will amount to the first time that a government in the U.S. has successfully taxed the assets, rather than the income, of extremely rich people as a class. newyorker.com/magazine/2026/…

More great questions, Dean. Thank you! Adding these to the queue.
Replying to @mondean @stateofbay
Should a tax rate change retroactively based on the results of a vote? Is that good tax policy? Are tax policy changes better off when being made legislatively (prop 13 as an example)?

Looking forward to having you on State of the Bay tonight at 6pm to talk about Prop 40, @saikatc ! kalw.org/show/state-bay/2026…
The whole world is watching to see if California can pass Prop 40 and tax the wealth of billionaires. This weekend in SF, the Curran Theatre was packed for a rally with @BernieSanders and @RoKhanna. If California can go up against the billionaires and win, the nation and world will follow. Vote YES on Prop 40 and NO on Prop 41 and Prop 42!

Well that was fun! Here's a link to the KALW moderated forum tonight with @MHurabiell and I representing the No side of the Bay Area transit tax measures on the November ballot, Measures H and RTM. My favorite line: "The accountability measures of SB63, its like they were written by a fantasy fiction novelist like JRR Tolkien. This is Lord of the Rings level stuff. It really doesn't say what everyone is saying it says." kalw.org/show/state-bay/2026…

Thanks for using my question! I did hear @debora_allen1 calling out the "transit industrial complex" - about the only thing I agree on this w/ her about. @SFBART made cuts and also invested in the faregates Director Allen fought so nobly for. Also this is my photo:
