Hi friends it’s actually not cool to accuse local electeds of being pro-Hamas terrorist sympathizers. It’s like very dangerous and threatening! kthxbye

To all the people who shed sweat & tears fighting against Fusus, do not let anyone take that away from you. This was not a council victory. It was a people victory. Without y’all, many of the so-called progressives on council wouldn’t have thought twice about voting yes.

One of the most (unfortunately) quotable meetings of the term. Come for the billy clubs (???), stay for Councilmember @JLPreptit looking fly as hell.

Throwing a fit when a vote doesn’t go your way is very much not a cute look for a legislator. And interestingly, it’s something I see overwhelmingly from the conservative members of the council, not the progressives.

CM Johnston is melting down on Facebook, y’all. To me, that means I’m doing something right.

This is a great question. In Feb. 2022, the prior council passed the enabling ordinance for license plate readers. That included a 6-month pilot program & requirement to get council approval for full countywide implementation after the pilot. 1/

In Aug. 2023, the prior council approved full countywide implementation of LPRs. But, the council still has to approve the LPR contract(s) with whatever vendor(s) MNPD has chosen through the procurement process. Until the contracts are approved, the LPR program is paused. 2/

Before the contracts are brought to the council for approval, MNPD will need to identify the funding source. They likely have the money in their budget already, or they could request it in a capital spending plan/supplemental appropriation/next year’s budget. /end

I think this analysis is fundamentally incorrect. The LPR contracts will only need a simple majority of those present and voting — which the Fusus contract got, but needed 21 due to being sole source. I’d be thrilled but SHOCKED if LPR contracts aren’t approved.
Metro Council did not vote to approve the Fusus contract, which needed 21 yea votes. It seems impossible to fathom a world where LPRs are approved by this council.

Also — there are no votes on Fusus who will vote yes on LPRs. And Gamble, who is an absolute yes on LPRs, was absent.

I'm doing it, folks. I'm gonna make the transition to BlueSky for my live posts of Metro meetings. I will forever appreciate Twitter for helping to get my message out to folks, and to those of you who've followed along the way. But it sucks here. It really does.

You can find me over there as startleseasily.bsky.social. I may post links here to my threads after the fact for a little while during the transition. I just have to limit my exposure to rage bait, and that's basically all Twitter is now.
