I’ve spent a few days thinking about the Tesla Roadster reveal and landed somewhere I haven’t seen much discussion. I’m neither a Tesla fanboy nor a Tesla hater. And I couldn’t care less whether what we saw technically qualifies as a flying car. Three takeaways: (1) The risk of that live demonstration going horribly wrong was real. Almost no CEO would willingly expose their company to that kind of public humiliation for a product with so little financial upside. Elon did. (2) That willingness to attempt the seemingly impossible is what makes Tesla special. It’s also arguably Elon’s greatest contribution to America. He’s helped bring back something we’ve lost. The American spirit of chasing big scary ideas that most people think are impossible. That mindset is spreading across a new generation of founders and its long term impact on America’s future could dwarf anything Tesla ever sells. I think this is deeply underappreciated. (3) Can we just acknowledge how insanely cool that moment was? We’ve reached a strange place culturally where even extraordinary feats of human ingenuity immediately become arguments about why they don’t count. Not everything needs to be a debate. Sometimes we should just be able to stand back together and marvel at what humans are capable of. I’ve been both bullish and critical of Tesla’s ambitions over the years. But watching Elon and his team push the boundaries of what’s possible reminds me why I’m glad we have him. Whether the Roadster ever makes Tesla a dollar or impacts $TSLA stock price is almost beside the point. We need more people willing to risk failure in pursuit of things the rest of us think are impossible. Because when they succeed we all win.

NASA has given us lots of information of Starship HLS, this is a very real vehicle with tons of work being put into it. SpaceX has nearly completed HLS Cabin One, a 1:1 matching of the real flight cabin for astronaut testing operations. SpaceX will likely show off the hardware for it within 2 months (this month is a high contender) The Artemis III Starship will have its docking system integrated by the end of the year and have its emulator and communications delievered in early 2027, this Ship will perform cryo and static fire tests in Q2 2027. HLS landing legs to be demonstrated in Q2 of 2027 along with Cabin One's airlock. Orbital refueling test of Starship set for Q1 of 2027! Pad LC-37 to be ready in Q1 2027 (already was known) First Cape and V3 booster reflight in Q4 of 2026, this may mean 3 more flights this year? Tank pressurization upgrades to SuperHeavy (?) Uncrewed HLS lannding mission in Q4 2027 with tankers.

You found it. 🍌
The banana at the Next Gen Roadster reveal wasn't an accident. It was an analog stopwatch.
A laser triggered the drop the instant the tires started to roll. We hung it at exactly the car's 0-60 time at the time of 1 second.
Banana hits the ground. Car hits the laser wall. Same frame.
Here's how we did it 🧵

i can't believe that "what's the top speed of your car in Mach?" is now a legitimate question
Replying to @JesseBWatters
I think we can reach a peak speed of >0.5 Mach or ~400 mph

Costco blade tenderizes its steaks. The label says so, and it's the reason a Costco steak comes with a cooking temperature printed on it. Before the steak hits the case it goes through a machine that pushes rows of thin blades into the meat to cut the muscle fibers, so a Choice steak eats more tender than it would on its own. You can't see the cuts once it's done, except sometimes in the fat on a ribeye. The catch is what rides in on the blades. E. coli lives on the outside of a cut of beef, which is why a rare steak is normally safe. The sear kills what's on the surface and the inside was never exposed. Push that surface into the middle with a blade and rare isn't safe anymore. That's why USDA says a mechanically tenderized steak gets cooked to 145F with a 3 minute rest, the same number as a pork chop, where a steak that wasn't tenderized carries no cooking instruction at all. USDA figures about 11% of the beef sold in the US is mechanically tenderized, and since 2016 the words have to be on the label. Costco started printing them in 2012, after an E. coli outbreak in Canada was traced to its blade tenderized steaks. The ground beef isn't tenderized. If the package in your cart says blade tenderized or mechanically tenderized, cook it through.

True. You will be able to ask the Roadster to perform any of the tricks shown autonomously, as it will be sentient. Also, we will have a wild looping track (crazier even than Hot Wheels) at our Texas HQ where you can test out your Roadster.

New Tesla Roadster info from the videos below: • Bespoke 4680 battery cell just for Roadster. Tesla's fastest charging battery, 15-80% charge in 10 mins. • Tesla wants to get to a <30 minute COPV tank refilling time, which will last ~5 seconds (single use before you have to refill it). • COPV uses an actuator from Tesla's Optimus robot • Roadster is capable of 0-60mph time of 0.55 seconds • 310-320 mile range • Up to 1,500 hp • Two motors, both on the rear axel • 10,000 psi COPV • 330+ mph top speed target • Rocket trim will be limited production • Almost every panel of the car moves in some way • Roadster is 2 meters wide • The pedals move for driver comfort. Seats are fixed • Brake-by-wire (and steer-by-wire) • Wireless phone charger • Heated seats • Next-gen heat pump • Tesla's thinnest headlights ever • Rear-wheel drive only, with 2 rear motors making 1+ megawatt & 1,400+ Nm, more than all 3 Plaid motors combined • No differential: each rear wheel is controlled independently through 8.4:1 planetary gears, with its own inverter • New 4680 cells with a special high-power chemistry, aluminum cans (instead of steel) & double-sided cooling • Titanium upper battery plate + aluminum lower plate • 800V architecture (same as Cybertruck & Semi) • 15-80% charge in 10 minutes, Tesla's fastest-charging battery ever • 300+ miles of range (battery size not disclosed) • Target of 25-30 minutes of unlimited track driving per charge • Weight just under 1,700 kg or 3,700 lbs (not final) • Double wishbone front suspension, multi-link rear, adaptive dampers • Track Mode lowers the car 40mm & makes it 3x stiffer • Pop-down headlights only ~15mm tall • Front wings move up to 80°, with pop-out side "scales" (barge boards) & an active hood vent • 4 rear fans (~20 kW each) + 4 drop-down side skirts form a "sucker system" for 2+ g of cornering from 0-50 mph • Skirts are replaceable rubber & nylon-bristle wear parts • Orange-tinted titanium-oxide rear glass, as used on aircraft • Removable roof panels • 4-5 prototypes built so far, with a bigger build planned early next year • Tesla calls it "the last great driver's car"

That's not fair. How are we supposed to pull them over for speeding and then they whip out the Uno reverse?
