The Republic of Argentina’s Permanent Representative has been elected as the President of the IAEA’s 70th General Conference.
Gustavo Zlauvinen was appointed as Argentina’s Ambassador to Austria and Permanent Representative to the international organizations in Vienna in 2024. He brings extensive diplomatic experience in nuclear non-proliferation, disarmament, international security, and multilateral affairs to the role.

Reflections from Geneva 🇨🇭 at the @UNGeneva ’s @AIforGood Summit, convened by the International Telecommunication Union @ITU.
The experience reinforced a powerful message: Africa’s opportunity is not simply to talk about AI, but to implement it.
Africa has the talent. What we need are stronger ecosystems, investment in people, research, entrepreneurship, and opportunities for young innovators to build and apply AI to real challenges.
From healthcare and agriculture to education, manufacturing and financial inclusion, AI can help Africa leapfrog traditional development pathways.
Africa should not aspire to become Silicon Valley. We should aspire to become the best version of ourselves, building solutions that are locally relevant and globally impactful.
The future of AI should be measured not only by what we automate, but by how many people we empower. 🌍🤖

On this day in 1897, the famous nuclear scientist, Irène Joliot-Curie, was born!
Following in the footsteps of her scientist parents, Marie and Pierre Curie, Irène is best known for her discovery of artificial radioactivity. Together with her husband, Frédéric Joliot-Curie, they synthesized short-lived radioisotopes by bombarding aluminium, boron, and magnesium with alpha particles. For this discovery, Irène and Frédéric Joliot-Curie were jointly awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1935.
Their research was instrumental in the development of a range of applications, particularly in nuclear medicine where the use of artificial radioactivity was a major milestone for never-before-seen diagnostic and treatment options.
