Protecting stairwell tenability is a tactical priority on every job.

If you stop the mass of hot gases from coming out of the fire compartment, you also reduce the amount of “replacement air” being drawn inward through the lower part of the opening. This minimizes the fire’s energy while crews enter for direct attack. Credit: Manuel Izquierdo

Understanding Temperature Modes?
Do you know that thermal imaging cameras switch from high to low sensitivity based on:
•The amount of heat within the field of view.
•A preset percentage of pixels at a certain temperature point determined by the manufacturer. When this occurs certain models show color in both high and low sensitivity or only in low sensitivity.
•And when this occurs a green triangle shows up in the upper left hand corner of the display indicating low sensitivity.
Sound complicated?
Seek Thermal has simplified this process with Mixed Gain Mode.
The TIC allows each pixel to switch independently allowing for next to zero delay when scanning all while maintaining image clarity in both high and low temperature ranges within the same field of view!
This is a game changer!
Check out our FREE webinar on our YouTube channel on how this makes decision making simpler, faster, and more effective for firefighters.

Does your department use hydraulic ventilation techniques? It must be coordinated, does not replace natural or vertical ventilation, but it does help improve visibility, reduce internal temperatures and create improved conditions. Credit unknown.

Massive Battery Fire: Toxic smoke and haze from a huge fire at the Fenix Battery Recycling plant in Kilwinning, Scotland, exactly a year after another fire at the site. A previous fire at the same facility on April 8, 2024, led to the suspension of its operating license, and this more recent incident on prompted emergency services to advise residents to keep windows and doors shut due to toxic smoke, with the blaze visible for miles and accompanied by battery explosions.

Defib pad placement is important. Positioning them correctly can double someone’s chance of survival.
Side A is correct. The key difference is that the pad on the left hand side of the chest has been placed on the side of the rib cage, closer to the armpit.

ALT The image shows a side-by-side comparison of two defibrillator pad placements on a CPR training mannequin, labeled "A" and "B." The background is dark blue, and the text reads: "Spot the difference. Do you know the best defib pad placement?" In image A, one pad is placed on the mannequin's upper right chest, while the other is positioned on left hand side of the rib cage, close to the armpit. In image B, one pad is also placed on the upper right chest, but the other one is placed on the left hand side, further away from the armpit and almost on top of the ribcage.

Firefighters from Alpha District took part in a tall and complex building drill over the weekend.
One of the tools we can use is a fog nail. After drilling, a lance delivers water onto the fire.
It allows firefighters to deal with deep seated fires.
