People who defended Nelson Mandela when he was incarcerated by South Africa's Apartheid regime were supporting someone that the democratically elected US government had proscribed as "terrorist" (Margaret Thatcher famously branded the ANC a "typical terrorist organisation".
Replying to @NewStatesman
You don't get to support a proscribed terrorist organisation because you disagree with the decision a democratically elected government made to proscribe them. Cope.

A Tshwane whistleblower has told me that the chlorine supply tender isn't actually a proper tender. It actually expired last year. The city is procuring chlorine on a month to month basis.
That's why there was a price dispute, because the supplier can easily restrict supply on this critical chemical at a moments notice. I understand they are the only supplier for the entire city which makes it even more problematic.
Worst still, apparently Roodeplaat Water Treatment plant which supplies water to Pretoria North has less than 2 weeks left of chlorine. It is not clear when more will be delivered.
I am told that the Mayor's office despite taking political responsibility for water treatment operations as never sought to get any reports on the chlorine tender or stockpiles.
I have sent this on to some journalists to investigate. I believe urgent oversight visits are needed at all existing Tshwane water treatment plants.

1st head to roll must City Manager as accounting officer, fired + criminal charges.
2nd must be MMC for Utilities, fired + disciplinary
3rd Mayor, resign/fired + disciplinary
4th MMC for Health, investigation into why water wasn’t tested for 3 weeks + fired if negligence found

Madam Mayor, leave Brink out of this. 408 residents mostly young children fell ill after your administration supplied unchlorinated water from the Bronkhorstspruit plant for weeks without warning the public.
That is a failure under your watch. Take responsibility. This is a real-life public-health crisis, not social media.
A four-page statement seeking sympathy votes is not going to work. Address the issue at hand and stop deflecting.
The opposition did its job by pointing out the failures. Are they supposed to cheer while 400+ people fall ill from your water supply?

Who is seeking anything from you or South Africa? A commemoration on the 40th anniversary of Machel’s death, at the site of the plane crash, is asking what of South Africa? Who is asking South Africa for anything?

At least four streets and a monument site are already named after Samora Mashele. His wife also receives the benefits accorded to a former First Lady in South Africa. What more recognition is being sought Ausi Redi?

No. No. No. Your strategic communications people are wrong. The water contamination crisis requires accountability and a singular focus. Not a PR digital roadshow about your achievements. It is a distraction. Show that you are fully present, fully capable in the midst of THIS CURRENT crisis. Stop this ego stroking exercise. People need leadership and accountability . Not this self aggrandisement.

All Trump did was openly display his bigotry, hatred, superiority complex, narcissistic and inhumane behaviour. The rest just felt comfortable revealing their true colours, now that a leader of a once respected nation was doing it unashamedly.

Sad to see so many South Africans prostrating themselves before Donald Trump. People who should know better. People I once thought were liberals, but who clearly have little regard for the values liberalism is supposed to represent.

News: The French are rioting over high cost of living and under-resourced high schools.
The rioters: Yes, that's what we are rioting over.
The French government: Yupp, they're rioting over that.
Everyone: Yepp, that's whats happening.
The far right: Da Blacks! Da Muzlims!

An empty building burns down in France and there is non-stop front page news, global outrage, wall to wall coverage, etc.
A school full of children are incinerated alive in Gaza and not even a single report about it.
This is why the western decline will continue.

Let me repeat what I said earlier:
My late father arrived in the UK in 1966 as a legal immigrant. He and his fellow Indian immigrants didn’t claim the entire country was theirs, didn’t kick 100s of 1000s of Brits out of their homes, and didn’t set up an Indian ethno-national state in the UK. If you’re too dumb or dishonest to understand the difference between normal, legal immigration and settler colonialism, that’s on you, not me.

Should a Jewish politician be asked to condemn Bernie Madoff, Jeffrey Epstein, and Benjamin Netanyahu at every campaign stop? You look ridiculous dude. If you love Israel this much just move there don’t import your sectarian politics to here.
Unless Abdul El-Sayed can unequivocally condemn the Muslim Brotherhood, Hamas, Hezbollah, SJP, the IRGC, and Hasan Piker, Barack Obama should absolutely not campaign with him.
I understand and support the drive to win majorities in Congress, but we Democrats will be doing immeasurable harm to ourselves if we drop all standards and violate our best principles in pursuit of that goal.

Again, most of you here simply cannot understand politics and governance because you lack historical consciousness.
First, you cannot wrap Singapore in the same colonial context as nations like India, Kenya, or Nigeria. Colonialism is fundamentally about invading and conquering a territory to extract natural resources and exploit cheap labor. For this reason, Singapore does not even qualify as a traditional extractive colony. It had virtually no natural resources, no agricultural hinterland, and no minerals to begin with. It was merely a mosquito-infested island with a negligible population. No imperial power was going to waste scarce capital building extractive logistics there because there was absolutely nothing to extract.
Singapore only became useful because the British Empire needed a strategic chokepoint to counter Dutch dominance over the spice trade and the Indonesian shipping routes. Because of this, unlike in India or Nigeria where the British built logistical networks solely to funnel looted resources from the interior to the periphery, Singapore actually received real, functional infrastructure. The British built massive warehouses to stockpile coal and station military fleets for their imperial campaigns in the region. To effectively counter the Dutch, they constructed world-class deep-water wharves, mechanized cranes, and extensive dry docks to service global shipping. Furthermore, Singapore was heavily fortified because Hong Kong was deemed too vulnerable and too close to the expanding Japanese Empire. Consequently, the British poured their imperial naval defense investments into Singapore instead. You simply cannot compare the brutal British subjugation and extraction of Indians, Nigerians, and Kenyans to the strategic militarization of Singapore.
Secondly, even after the British Empire dissolved and passed the imperial torch to Washington, Singapore's strategic usefulness in the Pacific continued to play a critical role in its economic development. During the height of the Vietnam War, Singapore served as a massive logistical staging ground for the American massacre of millions of Vietnamese. American oil majors literally built world-class refineries in Singapore specifically to process the aviation fuel needed for US warplanes dropping bombs on innocent Vietnamese villages. It was to Singapore that wounded US troops were flown for medical treatment. Singapore opened its doors so wide to the American war machine that, even after America lost the Vietnam War, US tech companies and defense contractors rewarded them by establishing manufacturing hubs and technology transfers in the country, which further accelerated their economic boom.
Today, Singapore has shifted its geopolitical posturing. It has transitioned from being a direct military outpost for Western empires into a premier money-laundering haven for corrupt global conglomerates. In fact, it is so deeply entrenched in corporate tax evasion and illicit financial flows that it is widely dubbed the "Switzerland of Asia." Singapore is exactly where you go to set up an offshore shell company to evade paying taxes in your home country. The state shields that stolen wealth from global regulators while happily taking its percentage.
I understand Singapore's true history, which is why no one can ever gaslight me into believing they attained their current level of development through sheer hard work and meritocracy alone.

Never? Singapore, a British colony, did just fine with its British built deepwater ports, airports and civili infrastructure. Kept it all intact and even bettered it over time. Unlike almost every former African colony.

Aha!
Israeli TV brings together a host of different candidates "from across the political spectrum" and asks them if they support the establishment of a Palestinian state.
They uniformly declare "No!"
"We'll fight it tooth and nail! … It's against God!"
By Israeli standards, Netanyahu is a moderate who is not genocidal enough.
