I don’t often write about myself, but today I shared something deeply personal: my experience fighting cancer while continuing to do a job I love.
Cancer tried to make my world smaller. I was determined not to let it.
I am incredibly grateful to be cancer-free, and even more grateful for President Trump, my family, friends, colleagues, medical team and faith that carried me through the hardest days.
I hope sharing my story might offer some strength to even one person still in the fight.

My English failed. I ordered a calm chowder.
The waitress did not blink. She yelled to the kitchen: ONE CALM CHOWDER! KEEP IT PEACEFUL!
The cook yelled back: NO WAVES ON THIS ONE! SMOOTH AS GLASS!
The bowl arrived with two oyster crackers floating side by side, completely undisturbed.
I have eaten there sixteen times since. It is on the specials board now: Calm Chowder, fifty cents extra for zero turbulence.
