The Saddlers' Company’s Funeral Pall dates back to c.1508 - made of Spanish brocaded velvet with English gold & silver embroidery.
When a member of the Company passed away, their coffin was brought to Saddlers’ Hall, where it would be covered with the Pall / Hearse-Cloth.

I am convinced that this is two different Police Officers. First is at Clarence Gate, Regent’s Park. The second is at Bank Junction at Mansion House Street/Princes Street.

Scafell Pike is the highest mountain in #Cumberland and the highest in all England at 3,209 feet (978m).
It is part of the Scafell massif within the #LakeDistrict National Park and one of the Southern Fells in Wainwright's classification.

2 years ago, on this date, like thieves in the night, Hartnell Taylor Crooks unlawfully closed Simpsons Tavern. Extinguishing a light that had burnt in the City of London for centuries
Last year was planned as the celebration of 300 years of Simpsons 3 centuries (1 of some) – at City of London, London
A great find.

The Ferry House, Isle of Dogs (est. 1722). The only pub whose sign incorporates the Thames foreshore?

We felt that a great crime against #cityoflondon was committed when #hartnelltayorcook unlawfully forfeited us to engineer a freehold sale in 2022
Sadly now we are a crime scene
We can only look on as the decline is ignored and our offer to purchase rejected
#shame
Help please. Is there a comprehensive map of Greater London showing the location of LCC/GLC/EH blue plaques ? I am interested to see which plaques are the furthest from the centre of London. I have just discovered Karl Popper's here in EN4 ! #TIA

Pesky bifocals !
Thank you James for your unstinting service to our great City.
After serving four years as Chair of the City of London Police Authority, I have handed on the baton to @Tijs_Broeke. I am delighted to serve a further year as Deputy Chair to support the succession.
It has been a huge honour and privilege to have served the @CityPolice - initially as a Special Constable in 2002, then joining the Police Authority Board in 2015: Deputy Chair from 2017, Chair from 2020.
I am immensely proud of what the Police Authority and City Police have achieved. An organisation in its strongest position for many years, an accommodation programme that is now well on track, an ambition to be the most inclusive police service in the country and strengthened governance.
To achieve this has required some common values: Collaboration; Passion for policing and serving the public; Respect for each other and the communities we serve; and Candour that has ensured transparency and built trust.

Paul. Thank you. It has been a business doing pleasure with you these last years.
Seriously; the book is a triumph.

Bizarrely, the only freehold property in Lonsdale Square of which the Freehold did not belong to the Worshipful Company of Drapers. Drapers’ Company sold the residential properties in the 1950s. The Pub belonged to the brewery.

Only tangentially relevant: my grandfather served in the RFC during the Great War. He would take my late mother (b1920) to the RAF Hendon airshow. Must have been 1930ish. I recall my mother talking about it on many occasion.
