Frustratingly in last week's election, city council candidate @dianafordurham, who favored radically increasing supply, lost to a candidate who wanted to boost demand by strong-arming developers. Losing by 50% suggests the public doesn't appreciate what we're constrained by.
50 year mortgages are fractally bad policy. Zoom in on any effect and it contains within it infinite badness. At a fundamental level, it’s demand subsidization, which will never improve affordability of a supply constrained good.

Useful fact pattern: I saw anecdote of contract client being indifferent to firm invoicing multiples above market rate for work, because (numbers hazy) client usually engaged at 6–7 figures and couldn't bother with a one-off process change to capture savings from $25k vs $50k+
Why not? Simplest reason is “Nobody made that decision.” If asked to justify the decision, I would say that over portfolio of small business accounts, very few in default are in default over $25, and many are in default over quite a bit, and so process designers care about #2.

From the book The Culture Map: author was in India. Concierge said destination was (paraphrase) "just outside on the left, can't miss it". Author found destination a 10-minute walk away and very easy to miss. Locals would consider the concierge honest and helpful.

My old digs in Ogaki was “Near the supermarket in Tsurumi-cho; turn left at the Buddha.” when I needed to explain it to cabbies. (Historically delivery operations had very large, detailed maps.)

Ok, I'm a pretty traditional representational oil painter, yeah? (Painting for example.) That's where my tastes are, that's what I do. But I don't hate all the moderns, and I sometimes think they're doing interesting things. 🧵

Realized I was sorta badly reinventing strftime. Now it's time to badly invent a layer ON TOP of strftime!
