We are deeply saddened by the passing of Dominique Vervoort, a talented young cardiothoracic surgeon whose impact far exceeded his years in training.
Dominique was a PhD candidate in Health Systems Research and Vanier Scholar at the Institute of Health Policy, Management and Evaluation at the University of Toronto. His doctoral work focused on disparities in the care of thoracic aortic disease, reflecting his profound commitment to equity in healthcare.
A passionate advocate for global surgery and public health, he was also an extraordinary social media ambassador for the EACTS Annual Meeting and other initiatives, generously donating his time to amplify science, live-tweet our sessions and help extend the reach of our Annual Meeting worldwide.
Our thoughts are with Dominique’s family, friends and colleagues. He will be greatly missed.

This year GBM went beyond work and hit home.
S was one of a kind, the kind of people that life should leave untouched for the benefits of all. We’re left without her beautifying outlook, without her cheer - but with a rage ten times her will to live.

Our mental health teams have been addressing the psychological toll of war & displacement on children’s emotional wellbeing in Gaza.
For a little insight into their mental health, we share a drawing from a 13-year-old child, explained by Audrey Mc Mahon, MSF child psychiatrist.

The US veto stands in contrast to the values it professes to uphold. By continuing to provide diplomatic cover for the atrocities in #Gaza, the US is signaling that international humanitarian law can be applied selectively - that the lives of some people matter less than others.

In #Gaza, as Israeli forces enter Al-Shifa hospital, we call once again for the protection of medical staff, patients and displaced civilians sheltered inside the hospital. We are extremely worried for their lives.
Funny how breaches of international humanitarian law are now broadcasted as normal questions to a doctor on duty, like “Are you aware you might be bombed next?”.
“I cannot leave the injured patients.”
Dr Mohammed Obeid, a surgeon working for the MSF Doctors Without Borders charity at the Al Shifa hospital tells @krishgm.
