Pete, Americans fought the Redcoats because they didn't want to be ruled by a king. They fought the Nazis because fascism and blind obedience to a supreme leader were threats to civilization.
And they fought terrorists to defend a constitutional republic where liberty, religious freedom, and the rule of law actually mean something.
You managed to recite 251 years of American military history and somehow miss the central lesson.
Our service members swear an oath to the Constitution, Pete. Not Donald Trump. Not you. Not whichever political party happens to control the government.
And while you're giving speeches about defending America against tyranny, your own Vice President is on television asking, "Who's gonna stop him?" when discussing presidential authority.
That's a rather spectacular misunderstanding of what generations of Americans volunteered to defend.
You know the names of the enemies, Pete. It's a shame you seem to have forgotten what we were fighting for.

As a major in Afghanistan, I was Chief, Ops & Tng (S-3) mentoring the Afghan National Army, serving beside troops from the U.K., Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Netherlands, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Belgium, Poland, Ireland, Luxembourg & even Mongolia!

I was a captain in Afghanistan, and we would go to the headquarters in Kabul, and there would be 50 flags at the headquarters.
It was a beautiful thing to see 50 different countries contributing to the NATO alliance and the ISAF mission there.
Except there were like maybe five that contributed. It was actually closer to one or two that, by the end, were actually involved in kinetic operations.
In fact, the ISAF patch, we would joke that it meant "I Saw Americans Fighting."

Defense contractors & their powerful lobby will never be satisfied with simply aiding the U.S. in building a strong military that is prepared for war.
The nature of the industry’s existence is not patriotism, but endless conflict. War is their business model—a perpetual state of war ensures a perpetual demand for their products.
Until we address this issue, we will continue to be subjected to forever wars that only serve the defense contractors—and the warmongering interests wealthy enough to rent the defense contractors.
Stop spilling American blood for profit.
