Japanese space agency JAXA has successfully launched a mission to visit the moons of Mars—and bring a sample back to Earth. The mission aims to explore the Martian moons, Phobos and Deimos, and return a sample from Phobos to Earth in 2031. Wow it looks so cool to disrupt nocturnal life and the natural rhythm of Earth.
Apparently reflect orbital conducted their first ground illumination test and WOW does it look cool. Location: (near Mount Whitney and Lone Pine, California)
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
Reflect Orbital's test near Mt. Whitney used powerful spotlights mounted on the ground to simulate illumination from its planned orbital reflectors. The company's first satellite has not launched. sfgate.com/tech/article/m… sfchronicle.com/outdoors/artic…

A microblazar in the Milky Way — confirmed for the first time Think of it as a pocket-sized blazar: a compact black hole or neutron star locked in a tight dance with a companion star. It pulls in material, heats a swirling accretion disk to extreme temperatures, and fires a narrow relativistic jet straight toward Earth. These systems are the Galaxy’s high-energy engines — X-ray binaries that also shine in gamma rays. IRAS 18293−0941 is the first confirmed microblazar. It harbors a black hole of roughly 10 solar masses paired with a blue giant/supergiant, sitting about 11,700 light-years away in the constellation Scutum. Its long-lived, powerful jets accelerate particles to TeV–PeV energies — some of the fastest particles known in the entire Milky Way.

🌔🔺 A giant triangle in the night sky! From October 19 to 25, 2026, the Moon will pass through Sagittarius, Capricornus, Aquarius, and Pisces. On October 24–25, the nearly full Moon will shine near Saturn. Together with Algenib, a star in Pegasus, they’ll form a large triangle. Depending on your location, look for the pattern that night or the following night. 📏 Each side will span about 15° — roughly one and a half fists held at arm’s length. 📍 From New Zealand and parts of the South Pacific, the triangle will look almost perfectly equilateral. Elsewhere, its shape will vary with your location and viewing time. 👀 All three objects are visible to the naked eye, though Algenib may be tricky to spot in the Moon’s glare. 📱 Use Star Walk 2 to identify Saturn and Algenib and check the view from your location. #Moon #Saturn #Stargazing #StarWalk

The Statue of Liberty Nebula: A Glowing Stellar Nursery NGC 3576, also known as the Statue of Liberty Nebula or ESO 129-EN5, is a bright emission nebula in the constellation Carina. Lying about 9,000 light-years away in the Sagittarius arm of the Milky Way, this vast star-forming region stretches roughly 100 light-years across. It shines because intense ultraviolet radiation from newly formed massive stars ionizes the surrounding hydrogen gas, causing it to glow vividly. The nebula earned its nickname from the way its luminous ridges and pillars resemble the silhouette of the Statue of Liberty. Within the cloud, powerful stellar winds and radiation from young stars carve the gas and dust into intricate shapes, while denser pockets continue to collapse and give birth to new stars. NGC 3576 remains an active stellar nursery, where the cycle of star formation is still unfolding. Image credit: ESO / VPHAS+ Survey / CASU

Flight-proven on the International Space Station. For roughly six months, our S2 dual robotic arm system operated in the real space environment. The long-duration endurance test proved the reliability of many of the subsystems we developed in-house, including actuators, flight computers, and power systems. This is what matters in space hardware. It has to keep working in orbit, not just work once in a lab. With the capabilities we built and proved through S2, we can move beyond CGI concepts and execute real on-orbit servicing missions for satellite constellations in low Earth orbit.
