A wonderful full-circle moment: I ran into @soortle at a coffee shop during #AERA24, and she came to my presentation. Her education classes at @Wellesley are the reason I am here.

Thanks to @AvashiaNeema for sharing her courageous and light-filled story with my @Wellesley students yesterday. We left with heats full and so much to ponder. Her book-Another Appalachia- is a treasure.
I think my students are going to remember this conversation for a long time…
Today I got to talk about Another Appalachia with amazing @Wellesley students. I was so moved by their careful reading, their deep questions, and the way in which they kept saying, “I saw myself in here.” Mirrors, y’all. Don’t discount them.
What an honor to support you in this way. Your work is discerning while gracious, elegant in its storytelling while relentless in its truth-telling. Congratulations Dr. Bruhn! I can’t wait to see what you do next @SarahBruhn3!
My committee, @RGGonzales1 @soortle and Sara Lawrence-Lightfoot, helped me find my voice, trusted my decisions, and stood by me through the wild journey of pandemic parenting/dissertating. Thank you for being such an incredible team. These generous words mean so much.
Great news, Fabienne!

Michelle Wu's experiences caring for a mother with a mental illness, raising two younger sisters, and now, raising a young family of her own have shaped her policy visions and led her to believe local government can always do more, she says. #bospoli bos.gl/mP1IOYu
And it was @SSYPBoston that brought the program to Boston and have been steadily nurturing and supporting a movement of parent leaders who are transforming our schools
The program in Chicago is the Parent Mentor program inspired by parents, organizers, and educators in Logan Square supported by the beautiful @LSNAChicago. Shout out to organizers like @barreralety @_bridgetmurphy who helped train the ldrs in Boston
16 yrs ago I learned about a program in Chicago organizing parents in schools. I wrote a book about that program because I was inspired. Then someone brought the program to Boston. And today, a parent from that program was sworn in as the newest member of the School Committee.
Just spent 3days with an amazing group of faculty who will serve as FOCWG Mellon Mentors. Pls share CFA with BIPOC faculty pre-tenure from NEHC member institutions. nehc.edu/focwg/mellon-mentor…
And thanks to @comeonirenem @MGabrielaTorres @DrMelvaTrevino for leading this project and organizing a space that seeks to build meaningful community.
Thanks for joining! It has been an absolute joy getting to see you and some of the other regular attendees through this #NaturalAlliesbook book club! And thanks for pulling out all those gems from Julia’s story yesterday!
✨10 minutes until Club time! ✨I’m excited to listen and learn more from the authors and bring the text to life! #NaturalAlliesBook
When I got to know Julia, she was in her first year as a teacher. Novice teachers don't get much support or training to engage families, so it felt important to introduce you to someone who was trying to connect with families from the start. (1/5)
"You have to realize that working and collaborating with families is going to help you lesson-plan. It's going to help you do these other things that are really overwhelming and daunting and that you feel you have to spend all your time doing... (4/5)
