In this era of artificial intelligence, it is becoming urgent to distinguish human art from what machines produce. There is an ontological difference, even before an aesthetic one, between art and what a machine can generate through statistical calculation based on millions of images created by others. Algorithms lack the spark of humanity. For this reason, the Church wishes to renew an alliance with artists and cultural institutions to safeguard our humanity.

What's the deal with how some 19th c. sources drop the "c" or "ac" in McGuire, MacPhee, etc., and instead write "M'guire"? A standard contraction (like Wm. for William), or something more, like to hide Irishness? Did people do this in manuscript? Example: catalog.mwa.org/vwebv/holdin…

Matthew Sutton's latest in JAAR: we should retire "evangelicalism" from our histories of the 18th and 19th c. and reserve the term for the post-World War II conservative political movement motivated by sexism, racism, and xenophobia: academic.oup.com/jaar/articl…
