This has to be one of the most extraordinary examples of what happens when gender ideology gets into the newsroom. The Daily Mail is reporting that transgender actor Hunter Schafer has undergone “gender-affirming bottom surgery”. Yet the journalist repeatedly describes Schafer as “she”, calls him an “actress” and claims he “transitioned to female” as a teenager. But if Schafer had already become female, what exactly was the surgery affirming? And why is a journalist reporting on surgery involving male genitalia seemingly unable to acknowledge that the patient is male? This isn’t about being unkind to anyone. It’s about the language journalists use to describe biological reality. Because when journalists start treating the idea that human beings can change sex as established fact, rather than distinguishing sex from gender identity, they’re no longer simply reporting what happened. They’re adopting a contested belief as the framework for their reporting. Link below 👇

Good stuff. Breaking up countries is not a good idea. Especially when said country is a free democracy where people are not subjugated or oppressed. A diminished Canada would be great for Putin and China.
More than THREE QUARTERS of Albertans have rejected even the IDEA of taking steps towards holding an independence referendum. Named for a daughter of Queen Victoria, the mother of Canadian Confederation, Alberta has today resoundingly re-affirmed Canadian sovereignty.

But that's not what this is, is it. It is a licence to the dogmatic and the unscrupulous, to separate vulnerable children from the parents whose counsel they need most of all.

This is a woefully bad Bill, dressed up as something good, and pushed by MPs who have no clue. Thankfully, vile gay conversion has been illegal for many years. But attempts to define 'being yourself' to a child who is gender confused?! Experts in the complex psychology of this like @marcuse99903226 and @JamesEsses, legal experts like @akuareindorf and @Jebadoo2 explain over and over why this Bill will cause harm and homophobia. As @AllianceLGB warn, it's about 'transing away the gay' 💔

Good governments don't do this. Nor do ones that really care about what they say they care about. People who throw this word without being able to define it aren't serious about making anyone's life better, beyond a charmed circle round power, it's just gesture politics.
"Gender" is not defined in law, nor is the @scotgov able to explain what it means. They do have a minister for it though! Maybe they should have one for faeries and sprites as well?

The supreme irony of John Swinney claiming that “no one will ever do a better job for Scotland” is that his party has had 19 years of uncontested power to prove it, and they have failed on virtually every metric. “The people who live here” currently have a Scottish Government that is presiding over a £5 billion structural deficit, a £400m nationalised ferry disaster, and a nationalised rail network plagued by slashed timetables and routine cancellations. You cannot pitch independence as a fresh start when you are the architect of the current domestic crisis. But the most hilarious part of this post is the platform it is on. SNP delegates officially voted to mandate that the party withdraw from X and actively support a UK-wide ban on the platform. Yet here is the First Minister ignoring his own membership's democratic vote to post conference clips because he desperately needs the engagement. They can't even govern their own social media strategy, let alone a country.

There's nothing inherently wrong with reforming councils or the NHS - but don't start blaming the UK Government for something you literally have complete control over. If this ends up just being a budget/political wheeze, the SNP truly have reached the bottom of the barrel.

It's really quite nakedly dishonest. Jenny Gilruth also claims the block grant will reduce in real terms - barely a week after the First Minister defended his misleading pensions claims on the basis of the unknowability of future block grants. This stuff is desperate.

Jenny Gilruth *again* pinning the success of the SNP's reforms of councils and the NHS on the cash boost from the UK budget That has *nothing whatsoever* to do with the structure of the NHS/local government in Scotland. Nothing. At. All. Blame game already underway

Much punchier accusations from Sir Malcolm Rifkind - a former defence and foreign secretary: "I choose my words very carefully. I think this week Donald Trump has shown himself as a person to be repulsive; as a President of the United States to be a disgrace to his own people as well as to his international responsibilities. "We all know his actual reasons for this are a grubby attempt to win a few more votes in the midterms by trying to get oil prices down. "In order to achieve that, he has not only betrayed Ukraine in the middle of a war, fighting for its very existence, but he is also directly - not indirectly - directly responsible for the deaths of many Ukrainians who will not now be protected by the attempts that have been successfully made using intelligence provided indirectly by the United States." xitter.cf/breeallegretti/status/…

If the SNP genuinely can’t fix the ferries or make the trains run on time, I suppose ordering CalMac and ScotRail to delete their X accounts, so stranded passengers can’t complain about cancellations is the next logical step😂. Demanding that essential public utilities abandon the platform where they conduct “near-exclusively” all of their emergency announcements and customer service, forcing islanders and commuters onto an obscure Bluesky echo chamber, is extreme nationalist narcissism. Even more absurd is SNP delegates arrogantly voting to dictate the social media presence of the entire Scottish Parliament and local councils, as if the party owns the state. Conveniently, while the SNP claims merely logging into X puts politicians at legal risk, their cheerleaders at The National are still right here posting this exact article on X for clicks. This isn't a moral stand; it is a desperate attempt by a failing government to flee public scrutiny and hide from the electorate. What an absolute embarrassment the SNP & the National are.
NEW: SNP members have voted in favour of calls for the party and Scottish Government to quit X at their conference in Aberdeen It calls for SNP candidates, branches and elected representatives to withdraw from the social media platform alongside Scottish Parliament accounts and publicly owned services including ScotRail and CalMac 👇

Is Swinney's star fading? "At an unsanctioned meeting in a drab room...members effectively set up an independence wing of the SNP. They are no longer buying the promises they have been fed for more than two decades." Full analysis in The Sunday Times: thetimes.com/uk/scotland/art…

In the Aberdeen bars at SNP conference, insiders opened up. “It’s time to start thinking about the need to get rid of Swinney before 2029,” one SNP staffer said. “He needs to go before the general election.”

Live-tweeting the conference from an official X account mere minutes after delegates overwhelmingly voted to force the party, the Scottish Government, and public bodies to abandon Twitter/X is classic nationalist comedy. The resolution demanding that publicly owned services like ScotRail and CalMac withdraw from the platform prioritises petty grandstanding over essential public service delivery. Demanding that islanders and rail commuters lose real-time travel disruption updates on the platform with the highest reach, simply because party members want to shelter themselves from opposing political views, is reckless governance. Between voting to flee public scrutiny on social media and indulging in fringe fantasies about a "Celtic exit", this conference has confirmed that after nearly two decades in power, the SNP has completely retreated from reality into an isolated echo chamber.😂
