This is a woefully bad Bill, dressed up as something good, and pushed by MPs who have no clue.
Thankfully, vile gay conversion has been illegal for many years.
But attempts to define 'being yourself' to a child who is gender confused?! Experts in the complex psychology of this like @marcuse99903226 and @JamesEsses, legal experts like @akuareindorf and @Jebadoo2 explain over and over why this Bill will cause harm and homophobia. As @AllianceLGB warn, it's about 'transing away the gay' 💔

Were I Cabinet Secretary for Education, I might be wondering why the former Cabinet Secretary for Education and now Deputy First Minister is muscling in, anyway.
Swinney's Headteacher of the Nation act increasingly grates.
Scotland’s First Minister has told a bus company boss to watch his language after he branded him a dictator over plans to bring the country’s bus network under public control.

Good governments don't do this.
Nor do ones that really care about what they say they care about. People who throw this word without being able to define it aren't serious about making anyone's life better, beyond a charmed circle round power, it's just gesture politics.
"Gender" is not defined in law, nor is the @scotgov able to explain what it means.
They do have a minister for it though! Maybe they should have one for faeries and sprites as well?

Replying to @JohnSwinney
The supreme irony of John Swinney claiming that “no one will ever do a better job for Scotland” is that his party has had 19 years of uncontested power to prove it, and they have failed on virtually every metric.
“The people who live here” currently have a Scottish Government that is presiding over a £5 billion structural deficit, a £400m nationalised ferry disaster, and a nationalised rail network plagued by slashed timetables and routine cancellations. You cannot pitch independence as a fresh start when you are the architect of the current domestic crisis. But the most hilarious part of this post is the platform it is on.
SNP delegates officially voted to mandate that the party withdraw from X and actively support a UK-wide ban on the platform. Yet here is the First Minister ignoring his own membership's democratic vote to post conference clips because he desperately needs the engagement. They can't even govern their own social media strategy, let alone a country.

There's nothing inherently wrong with reforming councils or the NHS - but don't start blaming the UK Government for something you literally have complete control over.
If this ends up just being a budget/political wheeze, the SNP truly have reached the bottom of the barrel.

It's really quite nakedly dishonest.
Jenny Gilruth also claims the block grant will reduce in real terms - barely a week after the First Minister defended his misleading pensions claims on the basis of the unknowability of future block grants.
This stuff is desperate.

Jenny Gilruth *again* pinning the success of the SNP's reforms of councils and the NHS on the cash boost from the UK budget
That has *nothing whatsoever* to do with the structure of the NHS/local government in Scotland. Nothing. At. All.
Blame game already underway

Much punchier accusations from Sir Malcolm Rifkind - a former defence and foreign secretary:
"I choose my words very carefully. I think this week Donald Trump has shown himself as a person to be repulsive; as a President of the United States to be a disgrace to his own people as well as to his international responsibilities.
"We all know his actual reasons for this are a grubby attempt to win a few more votes in the midterms by trying to get oil prices down.
"In order to achieve that, he has not only betrayed Ukraine in the middle of a war, fighting for its very existence, but he is also directly - not indirectly - directly responsible for the deaths of many Ukrainians who will not now be protected by the attempts that have been successfully made using intelligence provided indirectly by the United States."

If that's his aim on politics he's in the wrong party.
And I don't think he would say he's in wrong party.
