i love how memes proliferate. like one moment you’re at dinner and your friends are talking about foid debasement theory. the next day you make a foid joke in the group chat, then you make a tweet. or someone says “meow” and suddenly everyone is a cat.
it’s beautiful how memes start inside an isolated social circle, but once they’re shared on the internet, that circle infinitely expands.
the problem is, these memes are ephemeral in space and time. they only exist as long as people keep repeating them. maybe there’s something beautiful in a meme only existing in a specific moment.
maybe a few people screenshot it and then it’s buried in the graveyard of the enjoyer’s camera roll, resurrected at some random point in the future.
the fool is card zero. the magician is card one.
the difference between them is the decision to make something.
the fool walks into the unknown. the magician goes in and comes back with something in his hands.
at 18, i walked into a club for the first time, heard a rap song, and thought wow this is amazing. this is the secret.
that feeling drained over time. i thought i found it again at festivals, and that drained too.
i hadn’t lost it.
it moved.
the only person who can really be amazed by a magician is another magician. everyone else is amazed by the trick. the magician is amazed by the work.
every magician started out in the audience!!

Shopify billionaire co-founder & CEO Tobi Lütke — one of the most analytically rigorous founders alive — uses affirmations.
His exact words:
"If you tell yourself or write down something about yourself 100 times, it writes into the neurofrontal cortex at such a deep level that your brain will start reconciling you to that. It just works."
His personal example:
He was terrified of public speaking.
For one week he sat down every day for 10 minutes and wrote: "I love public speaking."
A week later the fear was gone.
"It's not like a placebo. You just actively change your neurofrontal cortex in this moment."
Your brain starts shaping your behavior around the identity you rehearse most.

We asked an unreleased research version of Claude to take a stab at the Riemann hypothesis.
It didn’t solve it, but it did make strides on a related problem: it increased the lower bound for the fraction of zeros of the Riemann zeta function that satisfy the hypothesis from 41.6% to 67.2%.
