My mom knew that the work of building a better world could be brutal. She proved to me that it's worth it. Building community, showing up for each other enriches every aspect of life, and I’ve felt that with all of you. The way forward is only possible with bravery and fortitude.

This is a jump the shark moment, can term limits please become a thing for city council.
Could feeding pigeons become a thing of the past? 🪶 Toronto City Councillor Kristyn Wong-Tam is putting a motion forward that would prevent people from overfeeding these birds, in an attempt to have them move away from the busy public areas that they populate.
I feel sad for young Pakistanis immigrating to Canada. Failed by their country, they are choosing instead a frozen, culturally barren place where their skills & experience are devalued & the racism is so subtle they often doubt themselves before they see it.

Any researchers on climate change and smart cities who can write 5k words for an urban policy audience? Could be on climate adaptation, infrastructure, clean tech, energy management, through the lens of smart cities. Suggestions & RTs appreciated!

Pakistan and Canada have a strong relationship, and it grows stronger every day thanks to the important contributions that Pakistani Canadians continue to make. Today, we join them as they celebrate Pakistan’s Independence Day. pm.gc.ca/en/news/statements/…

Canada is an amazing place to call home, and its people make it even better. We’re always there for each other - in good times and bad - and we always will be. And that’s worth celebrating. Happy Canada Day, everyone! bit.ly/3giSk7o

Anti-Black racism exists in Canada and we must do all that we can to end it for good. So as leaders and as allies, we must listen to, learn from, and work with every person who marches and posts and expects more than the status quo.

Today across the country and around the world, Muslims are celebrating Eid al-Fitr and marking the end of Ramadan. To all the Muslim Canadians who are carrying out traditions at home and getting together online, I’m wishing you the very best. Eid Mubarak! bit.ly/3c0W9M2

SWL's departure should not be marked with wistful sighs (as I'm seeing in some urbanist circles). Toronto is - was always - able to imagine & create a neighbourhood that is innovative & uses data & tech in ways that advance the public interest, without compromising values.

It's an opportunity to invest in our own future. The one that Torontonians desire that includes diversity, democracy & equity. Let's take this opportunity to bury archaic business models of the master developer "fixing" a city's problems.

We are implementing the Quarantine Act to keep all Canadians safe. So let me be clear: If you do not go home and stay home for at least 14 days after coming back into Canada, you could face serious fines or prison time.

The City of Toronto has acquired hotel and motels as part of our integrated homelessness response to COVID-19. Additional opportunities to acquire hotels and vacant residential buildings are actively underway. Our commitment is to work flat out to protect the most vulnerable.

Today's update from our Medical Officer of Health. We are at a critical moment in slowing the spread of this virus, and each and every one of us has a role to play. We all need to take #PhysicalDistancing seriously, not only to protect ourselves, but those most vulnerable.
Read my remarks from today's media briefing on #COVID19, measures we are taking to reduce virus spread in long-term care settings and why we all need to practice #PhysicalDistancing to protect our city:bit.ly/3buzlok

Hey Toronto - we have 5 billion condos and yet have had zero heartwarming balcony stories...#Covidtoronto – at Toronto, Ontario
A pianist in Barcelona went to his balcony during the quarantine, to play a song for the neighborhood. A sax player in the building next door saw what was happening and joined him. And it was awesome.
