🚨 The RSS has a grand new home in Delhi. But this grandeur hides uncomfortable realities — including allegations of harassment and landgrab via a temple trust.
In my (first) cover story for @thecaravanindia, I explain how the RSS evades scrutiny: caravanmagazine.in/politics/…
This is and has been a travesty

Das and Ranka have been in jail since October 14.

People can have differences and nuanced takes on CJP but it is inexcusable to remain silent on the custody of Ashutosh and Saurav. This is an egregious violation of a citizen's liberty. Please speak up. If not on principle, than in self-interest, for this is setting a precedent.

Apropos of nothing, in 2015, the Kenyan HC held that “breach of peace bonds” were a colonial relic, used by the Brits to suppress dissenting voices, and struck them down as inconsistent with a constitutional democracy.

The parents of Sahil Wakode, the IIT Bombay student who died by suicide on 18 September, arrived at the institute to commemorate a month since his death. They entered the campus in the afternoon and went to Justice Corner, the site where students have been protesting for the past month. However, there were no students at the site—eight of them had been picked up by the police at 12.30 pm and taken to the Powai Police Station.
Sahil's parents asked to meet the protesting students. The Congress MP Varsha Gaikwad was also present, as were the parents of Aniket Ambhore, an IITB student who died by suicide in 2014. Soon after Gaikwad left, around 3 pm, the police detained 22 students as well as the Wakodes. They were all released after 6 pm. When they returned, students found that the administration had dismantled their protest site. They have decided to continue their protest in front of the director's residence.

Journey of a slander. It was the BJP IT cell which began asking how anyone with a phone and a mic can be called a journalist. This was around Oct 2. Fews day later it was used by Delhi police. Then Godi anchors used this line on TV. Now the Chief Justice.

Those accusing protestors of instigating "regime change" might want to listen to what ordinary people, who have no inclination to protest, are saying about the Modi government.
(Not very pleasant things.)

. @mrajshekhar is an exceptional reporter, as witness the ground reporting that resulted in the book Despite The State. He was in Delhi, chronicling the protests, when the police detained him. What happens when the doors of the bus close on the detainees is the theme of this superb essay:
