My piece on the recent FCRA changes
The desired goal is to be left with a civil society that is subservient, not adversarial—it should deliver services the state no longer wants to provide but raise no uncomfortable questions about the government itself.

This is and has been a travesty

Delhi Special Executive Magistrate (SEM) court extends CJP leaders Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka’s judicial custody by 2 days.
Das and Ranka have been in jail since October 14.
@SauravDassss @AshutoshRanka @Cockroachisback @CJP_for_India
The court doing everything it can to keep @SauravDassss and Ranka out of the public gaze. Ridiculous. They must be released.

We are still at SEM court, waiting for court to dictate order.
There is no reason to extend judicial custody. Today also no argument presented by PP on law. All his arguments were mere assumptions. Absolute waste of time of SEM court.
Saurav and Ashutosh must be released.
Puja Sen retweeted
Let the rule of law prevail for once.
Release @SauravDassss & @AshutoshRanka!
Saurav and Ashutosh are scheduled to be produced before the new SEM at 2 PM today. Their judicial custody ends today.
I sincerely hope there will be no further delays - no IO switching off phone for hours, no threatening messages, no hearing at 6PM, no tyre puncture to be not able to produce them.
Basically no “Upar se orders”

Earlier today, several women’s and students’ organisations held a protest at the Delhi Police headquarters against sexualised and gendered violence by security forces against protesters. Vani Subramanian, a filmmaker and feminist activist, says that a senior official met them and promised a meeting with the commissioner within two days.

Several protesters who were detained, near Mandi House and Lady Hardinge hospital, have been kept inside the Connaught Place Police Station for hours. The police refused to let anyone inside, and a crowd of relatives, friends, journalists and lawyers grew outside the main gate. A small group was eventually let in after a long argument, and women detainees have now been released.

Eight women who were being detained at Connaught Place Police Station have been released, but only after signing a document acknowledging that, while they have not been arrested, they might be questioned, or accused, in regard to an FIR that is being lodged. For Amana and Chandana, students from Delhi University who are not affiliated to any organisation, this was their first experience of getting detained.

When they came for the journalists, they came for the republic's memory.
A nation that cannot be reported cannot be remembered.
Solidarity with every journalist beaten, detained or arrested by this regime.
A silent march was held around the Press Club of India to protest the harassment and detention of journalists.

5 days judicial custody for what?
The govt is making all attempts to crush people's dissent and ensure this resistance vanishes. Sending @Cockroachisback 's Saurav and Ashutosh away is nothing but an attempt at that!
Puja Sen retweeted
Release @AshutoshRanka, @SauravDassss and all other CJP members NOW!
Why is Delhi Police extending their detention? Is there a specific agenda behind keeping them in custody? What’s your play, @DelhiPolice?
Stop the detention. Release them immediately!

As the police tried to persuade them to leave, the protesters responded with song. Once a bus arrived, the police began detaining people.
