Are the two sides at least talking about the issues? It seems fairly simple to me (naively perhaps). You insist on accountability. That's it. Mind you, we don't do that with the Americans...
It's interesting to see how this news has been reported in Kenya overnight. There are lots of competing factors at play. The big question is whether the government there will issue any licenses into 2027, when there are five British Army exercises planned. @ForcesNews
Hello Professor- and sorry for my long silence. I'd be very interested. I know my uncle was at Kohima and in the Arakan action before that. I am not sure when the Somaliland soldiers arrived so it would be excellent to have a detailed history of their role.
Do you mistake me for someone who wants murder to go unpunished? I have said for some years now that the culprits should be extradited to Kenya to face justice and abuse of this kind should never happen again. I applaud Kenya's action and am sorry it dodn't happen sooner.
Um yes, I kind of noticed that. Why is it being issued as a location for some kind of serious investment in infrastructure? Is there a plan behind it? Stating the obvious is amusing but not helpful.
Would love to know more. My maternal uncle was there, commanding a company of the Punjab regiment. He would have been very close to this action. Alas- now dead and can't explain.
Long overdue! Where is the trial of the murderers of Agnes Wanjiru? The UK could have done the right thing at any time. We have no complaints whatsoever. Mutual accountability and respect or no deal.
A major British Army training deployment to Kenya has been cancelled
The Kenyan government refused to issue the licences needed for troops to train. The last-minute decision affects 1 LANCS' September exercise

What does this mean? Where is the detailed plan?

Air Zimbabwe has secured a wet lease from Spain’s national carrier and resumed flights to London Gatwick (LGW).
Can someone explain why can’t #Somaliland do the same? With just two leased aircraft, it could finally reconnect to the rest of the world in the same way Daallo Airlines used to do when it flew to LGW.
Somalilanders are paying 70% more in dollars to transit through Addis Ababa and Dubai. Everyone is making money from Somalilanders! That has to end.
For the first time in 14 years, Air Zimbabwe is flying to London. The new thrice-weekly service is operated by a wet leased Plus Ultra A330. flightradar24.com/AZW724/40c…
I am delighted to see it. The UK only had to agree strict accountability to safeguard Kenyan civilians, but refused. It's about time Kenya acted to uphold the integrity of its territory and people.
@gathara what do you think about this?
How on earth is this happening? @edwyplenel what is the alternative? I actually know a couple of passionate Melenchonists here in the UK but that is not an option, is it?
The truth is that I decided not to have anything to do with this platform because I truly hate Elon Musk and everything he touches. But- stupidly here I am back again because my friends from Somaliland are still here. But I don't miss you at all, @HoehneVirgil
I am not arguing for these people. I do think there is a moment when you must leave. Up to that point there is the fear that walking away too soon could be cowardice, removing any prospect of bearing witness. Timing is everything here- the right action is not always obvious.

How do you think history will recall those who stay? Those who compromise? I think the argument that they can do good from within has been tested and pretty much debunked over that last two years.
There are some who have really tried. Others have been forced out and all have been forced to consider the painful question: shall I do the right thing and disappear from the media as a result, or compromise and hope for the chance to tell the truth? A move with no good outcome.
When your employer is complicit in genocide, are you complicit if you stay? History hasn't been kind to journalists in Nazi Germany or 1994 Rwanda. How will it treat today's Western media workers?

The BBC, like the UK government, tries our patience sometimes. They know-and I do mean they really know- that Somaliland has not broken away from anything. It's exhausting to keep on having to correct them.

In terms of diplomatic norms, what are suggesting is reflected in the principle of "reciprocity". Metaphorically, it's the mutual relationship:"I scratch your back, you scratch my back." If that's the case, then you don't allow the party to deal with in their terms. No deal, DJT!
The first thing to say is that my instinct probably explains why I am not a professional diplomat!
Yet I also think we have spent long enough on a game that needs to be ended.
I know the Brit (and EU) diplomatic approach. They will try to leave things as they are until something-

Wouldn’t that be quite provocative, Simon? I can see the logic, but to refuse entry to UK and US diplomats could undermine Somaliland’s position as a cooperative and reasonable partner, no?
Dramatic happens to change them.
The 2012 conference seemed like a fresh start, with a step by step approach to recognition.
Actually it was a way of feeding Somaliland enough to go along with reunification, but with a few little treats- like a local office- to make the medicine-
The cultural glory of... Somaliland. So what is any foreign embassy doing referring to it as Somalia? The one time I spoke to the former MFA Essa Kayd my advice was to refuse entry to any diplomat accredited to Mogadishu. That includes the US and UK.
Laas Geel is among hundreds of caves along the Golis mountain ranges in Northern Somalia that show case the rich history of Cushitic civilisations—the founders of the first civilisations in the world; the Bronze Age civilisations. I know of dozens of similar caves in both Calmadow & Calmiskaat with paintings & unique artefacts. Sadly many of these caves, some of which are more valuable than Laas Geel, in eastern Golis (Calmiskaat) have been vandalised, stollen by terrorists (AS, ISIS) & are being destroyed by the ongoing recent bombings by UAE airforce.
The rich archaeological history in the Golis range cave systems are gift from early Cushites (Puntites, Macrobians, Ati/Aten/Bin Aad etc.) to the humanity. Somalis, as one of descendant tribes of these early Cushites, were the custodians in the past couple of millennia & kept intact. Somaliland is merely the land of Somalis in a country called #Somalia.
Needles to say USA has a responsibility to protect the cave systems in Eastern Golis (Calmiskaat) & their rich archeological history which are currently under bombardment.
I always feel diffident about posting on Somaliland as a foreigner, a Brit. But seeing this tsunami of hyper opinionated extreme nonsense from an Aussie makes me fell so much better. You're an Aussie, ma'am. Why are you telling the people who live there how to think? Weird.
Enough of your bullshit historical revisionism.
THERE WAS NO GENOCIDE AT ALL. YOU CLEARLY HAVE NO UNDERSTANDING OF THE TERM AND THE MARKERS OF ONE YOU’RE ONLY USING THE TERM GENOCIDE TO PLAY THE FUCKING VICTIM.
AND PLEASE STOP POSTING FOR YOUR AUDIENCE OKAY? THE ONLY REASON YOU’RE USING THE TERM GENOCIDE IS TO DRAW THE HEART STRINGS OF PEOPLE WHO DON’T UNDERSTAND THE TERM. YOU’VE GOT THE WRONG AUDIENCE SWEETHEART.
1. It is a DOCUMENTED FACT the reigning class of this one clan militia enclave WAS ALWAYS the Isaaq, clan.
What is also a DOCUMENTED FACT that most backed the SNM, so much so, that in 1991, immensely contributed to that clan oriented conference in Burco.
2. From 2010 to present day, this one clan militia enclave labelled “Somaliland” turned into a one-clan-party-system.
3. Whether you like it or not, “Somaliland” turned into “Isaaq-land.”
4. When imbeciles from the one clan militia enclave called “Somaliland” tell their Jewish supremacist overlords, and any moron who’ll listen, their so-called “War of Liberation” was a pathetic and shameful SNM-led armed insurgency against Siad Barre.
5. President Barre WARNED AND WARNED them what repercussions would be.
6. The SNM (Isaaq) cooperated with the SPM (Ogaden) and the USC (Hawiye). However, after Barre was deposed, the SNM leadership did not know what to do and then “Somaliland” was the last desperate option.
7. Given, Dahir Riyale Kahin (Somaliland's 3rd President) was a Gadabursi from Awdal and not Isaaq. But his cabinet was PREDOMINANTLY ISAAQ, and his term ended, this clan COMPLETELY TOOK OVER.
8. The fact remains that no matter how many UAE propaganda machines or Zionist PR firms trying to rehabilitate the image of this one clan militia enclave Somali land will always stand for a terrorist conveyor belt.
10. In addition, what happened in Lascaanod along with how their supporters reacted, including some so-called intellectuals who called for “clan cleansing” back in 2023, “to get rid of the problem in the East” is ironic considering the leadership in Hargeisa considered ETHNIC CLEANSING IN GAZA in exchange for cleaning the toilets for your Jewish supremacist overlords.
11. You want to talk about unity?
TELL THE FUCKING TRUTH, AND STOP SPREADING PROPAGANDA.
Now you’re dismissed and permanently muted.
Toodles!
