Rocket Lab found air pockets inside the carbon fiber of Neutron's first-stage tank, and the first launch moves into 2027. The previous target was the fourth quarter of this year. The voids sat between carbon fiber layers in a newly cured forward dome, in sections made thicker after a design change. Rocket Lab says it fixed the curing process and is building a new dome. In January, an earlier first-stage tank made by a contractor ruptured in a pressure test. Peter Beck gave no new date. The new dome has to be cured and inspected, then the full first stage goes through pressure and cryogenic tests in the first quarter of 2027. Only then will they set a target. Neutron was first planned for 2024. Shares fell about 6% after hours. Big composite tanks built quickly are the core of Neutron's cost plan, and that is exactly what keeps slipping. Is a 6% drop enough for a stock priced on Neutron flying, or is there more to come?
