an insurance company with 0 underwriters
today we're launching @florin_hq (yc s26)
we price risk with evidence (satellite imagery, permits, public records, even your instagram) instead of rate tables, simulating tens of thousands of futures per business. bindable quotes in seconds
carriers pricing by class code can't tell good businesses from bad ones, so they decline entire industries. we insure the ones everyone else turns away

Insurance brokers in 2026:
Me: hi, I need a quote for my client
Wholesaler: fill out this form
Me: I already filled out this exact form for 9 other carriers today
Wholesaler: fill out this form
Me: it's literally identical information
Wholesaler: fill out this form
Me: fine. when do I hear back?
Wholesaler: 4-6 business days
Me: it's 2026
Wholesaler: fax preferred
this is a trillion dollar industry btw
@florin_hq
if your business keeps getting declined or quoted something absurd, DMs open
and if you're a quant or engineer who'd rather build the model than read the files, we're hiring

“In my zip code, there’re over 100 Berkshire shareholders whom I’m friends with..as long as the stock’s up.” 😂
“Now if I move to Palm springs or something, I’ll probably not even know my neighbours.”

You won’t liked be everyone.
You can’t be friends with everyone.
You don’t need to impress everyone.
Once you embrace these truths, you can truly be free and begin to self-actualize.

Other than Li Lu, another person name Duan Yongping is also widely nicknamed “China’s Warren Buffett” in Chinese media and investment circles for his concentrated, patient style and successful long-term bets.
Duan won Buffett’s annual charity lunch auction with a bid of $620,100 then a record. He was the first Chinese person to do so. He brought along a young Colin Huang (later founder of $PDD), whom he mentored.
Duan is a longtime admirer and practitioner of Buffett’s philosophy (“buying stocks means buying companies,” focus on understanding businesses, long-term holding, circle of competence, and avoiding what you don’t understand).
$PDD is 10% of his $20B fund, ranking 4th after $AAPL $NVDA and $BRK.B

Munger: "I don’t go to meetings. Warren doesn’t go to meetings. Put that in your article: There’s practically no meetings in the whole Berkshire culture. There are a few telephone calls and no meetings. I don’t care if you print this. Warren gets a headache if he’s in a big meeting where a lot of other people are saying dumb things. He gets a sick headache. He’s not feigning it. He actually does."
