This is absolutely insane. If scientists aren't allowed to use the term "women" or "female" when applying for NSF grants, that basically rules out any human clinical trials of anything. "Disability" is blacklisted too? There goes a lot of medical research.
Per @darbysaxbe, from a program officer at the National Science Foundation, federal grants can now be pulled for containing any of these keywords. Absurd and dangerous

Our onsite courses include social activities as well! Check it out:
Replying to @MariaShujah
Also, 1) not all challenges during this course were scientific. 2) Lisbon is AWESOME!

Happy to see the participants' testimonials on the Cajal INC Course in Lisbon! Thank you for participating! @ChampalimaudF
INC 2023 was like neuroscience on steroids. Very intense yet so rewarding! Thank you @Cajal_Training for this incredible opportunity. The last 3 weeks will forever be a core memory.

Add ‘superior ability to repair their DNA and avoid cancer despite having tons of cells’ to list of cool whale facts 🐋
Fascinating new preprint on bioRxiv tackles a whale of a question: Whales are huge. So why don’t they get a ton of cancers? biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/…

On my drive into campus I saw a guy holding a “Jan 6th Let’s Go Branden Day” sign…like there really are people celebrating the anniversary of a insurrection & violent attack on the capital?!! Disgusting.

Getting twinkle lights for my desk was a power move especially when it gets dark at like 4 pm these days . 10/10 would recommend to combat the gloom that is a PNW winter 🌧️

that’s a wrap on my first sfn 🧠 learned so much! Definitely felt like there wasn’t enough time in the day to soak in all the science. Excited for next year already #SfN2022

Love that #SfN2022 has pronoun stickers for badges this year plus peep the cutest brain pin from @TwoPhotonArt 🧠

Had such a great time the last few days in Anaheim talking with students about @uoregon bio grad school at #ABRCMS2022! Arrived in San Diego today for more science fun this week at #SfN2022

Here is a very cool publication from Cris Niell and the Niell Lab using our lightweight active probes to allow a headmounted camera: "A dynamic sequence of visual processing initiated by gaze shifts" (video credit to Matt Smear) hubs.ly/Q01lBsW10

When I rotated in the Niell lab I remember talking with Cris about the big lab goal of recording neural activity during free movement so we could study active vision, turns out it’s just as cool as we thought it would be! It was so much fun to be a part of this project 👀🐁🧠
New work on active vision! We find a temporal sequence of processing in V1 following gaze shifts in both mice and marmosets. Led by @cosmousevision @dmmartins @emmalynleonard in collaboration with @jcbyts and @judefmitchell. 1/n biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/…

much needed day-trip to the coast 🌊 10/10 would recommend going to grad school near the ocean, the ability to escape to the waves in an hour or so is underrated

When we first adopted Sammie I was worried she would be sad when we left her all day to go to work, 4 years & a spy cam later I’m confident she is beyond content with her day full of solo couch naps. And every time I check in on her from lab I get a 🤏🏼 bit jealous 😅
