On the 25th anniversary of 9/11, we remember Betty Ann Ong, the flight attendant aboard Flight 11 who made the first call alerting authorities to the hijacking. Her bravery & legacy live on at Betty Ann Ong Rec Center in Chinatown, where she grew up & played as a child:
"Never forget, never forget Betty." Those words from the family of Betty Ann Ong. Ong was the first person to alert authorities of the terrorist attack on September 11, 2001. Her bravery on that day made her a national hero. trib.al/6ICmaM3

25 years ago today, nearly 3,000 lives were taken in a single morning. Today, we remember those who died, the families who lost loved ones, the communities who lost friends, and the first responders who gave everything to save others.  Our city has a direct connection to the September 11th attacks and the people who stepped up in the aftermath. 25 years ago, United Airlines Flight 93 was scheduled to fly from New Jersey to SFO, carrying San Franciscans and Bay Area residents who never made it back home. They fought against the hijackers and lost their lives preventing another attack. We remembered all of those lives at an early morning ceremony in San Francisco today. In the days after September 11th, 13 members of the San Francisco Fire Department—including now-Fire Chief Dean Crispen—boarded the first commercial flight allowed out of San Francisco. They went straight to New York and worked in the pit for a week, shoulder to shoulder with their brothers and sisters in uniform. Their service reflects something deeply rooted in San Francisco: when our neighbors need help, we show up. September 11th will always be a day of grief. But it is also a day of gratitude—for those we lost, those who ran toward danger, and the first responders who continue to serve our communities every day. San Francisco will never forget.

In San Francisco, we are bringing accountability to our homelessness system. We will run a new competitive process to redo every one of the city’s homelessness services contracts. Reforms will include: ➡️ Every contract will be focused on client outcomes. ➡️ We are going to link payment to performance so we know we are paying for results—not expenses or inputs. ➡️ Our sites will be good neighbors in the communities they serve, helping those who are struggling and our residents who deserve safe and clean streets. This is about delivering better services for those struggling with homelessness and addiction and better results for all San Franciscans. Through this process, we will be in close conversation with the community and providers who do this important work. – at San Francisco, CA

San Francisco is on track to set a new tourism spending record of nearly $10 billion this year—surpassing the previous high from 2019. In 2027, visitor spending is projected to reach another record of $10.6 billion as we welcome Vogue World, the WNBA All-Star Game, SailGP, and more. These visitors and events support tens of thousands of jobs and small businesses—and generate revenue for clean and safe streets, public transportation, parks, and other essential city services. Millions of visitors are seeing what San Franciscans already know: there is no place like San Francisco. Thank you to SF Travel for hosting today’s Visitor Impact Summit and for helping us welcome the world to our city. – at San Francisco, CA
