Can I just thank @hughferris @stevenwyeth @RorySmith and Chinch for leaving all the episodes of @setpiecemenu up for listening even though the show has ended. There is so notch excellence there which is filling me commute during this non football wilderness. Thank you, miss you

A few years ago we did a series on people who shaped modern football. Silvio Berlusconi was one of the four we chose. Many of the immediate obituaries will focus on politics & scandal. If you’re interested in his impact on football you can revisit it here podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcas…

And don’t forget to buy Best Man Billy a coffee/beer for his years of hard work!
Admittedly the beer won’t last very long in comparison with the amount it time he’s studied endless spreadsheets for SPMPLPL, but he’ll savour it nonetheless

I have a book out tomorrow. It’s about a very quiet revolution in the way we think and talk about football, and the way football thinks about itself. It contains zero equations. smarturl.it/expectedgoals

Just out here in Cork, Ireland supporting @RorySmith and thinking about how much he and his @setpiecemenu band of brothers still and will always mean to me.

Going to have to cut together some of @hughferris BBC bits, followed by a somewhat tangential @RorySmith radio monologue and a bit of loosely related commentary from @stevenwyeth and Andy to create a DIY @setpiecemenu episode. Anything for nuanced football content at this point.

SPM was 1 of a kind. Intelligent, funny content I can’t get elsewhere. The chemistry you gents have is unique, and will be missed. The family built around the pod showed strong through tragedy, through covid and more. I’ve never been sad about a podcast before. You’ll be missed x

This week: the 275th and final episode. Our London Live Show in podcast form. Two topics of conversation, one with special guest @kickback_nedum, the most democratic Select XI we’ve done and the worst quiz you’ll likely ever hear podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcas…

5 and a half years after it all started, it’s ending. Our final @setpiecemenu show is here.
The show notes have a longer valedictory message, but essentially, to you all, from @stevenwyeth, @RorySmith, Chinch and me, thank you! podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcas…

2016, and people advised me, @hughferris, @stevenwyeth and Andy Hinchcliffe against doing the @setpiecemenu podcast because it sounded “a bit niche.”
2022, and we’ve had to bin it because it turned out they were right and it never turned into a viable revenue stream.

The last words from @setpiecemenu with a standing ovation and we all have something in our eye 🥲 Don’t forget though, their emails are still open and there are 275 episodes of nuanced football chat in the archives for your to enjoy

There will be some SPM greatest hits at tonight’s finale, including a Select XI. We’ll be enlisting the hive mind, but that doesn’t have to exclude you, the SPM twitterati. Your thoughts please on a Select XI of players we’ve mentioned all too often on the pod

In London Village this evening for the very last episode of @setpiecemenu, live at @21Soho. It’s been a blast listening to the podcast over the last couple of years, now to see the magic live for one final time. Skwerl T-shirt has already been commented on by someone in Soho.
