I’ve bought a lot of business books I never finished.
That’s why every one of mine uses a fable to convey the ideas.
I believe that for a leader, a finished, interesting book beats a comprehensive one every time.

Fuck it, we just made Fizzy completely free.
The open source installable version was always free, but the SaaS version was pay. No more. Basecamp and HEY's largess will subsidize Fizzy for all.
So go grab your account at Fizzy.do. It's Kanban the way it should be, not the way it has been. Fresh, fun, light, fast, and perfect for working with agents, too.
An official CLI is coming soon as well. Stay tuned for that.
The native iOS app should be out once Apple approves it (it's in approval right now...). Android is already out, you can get it on the Play store.
(and BTW if you were a paying customer, you will no longer be charged moving forward)

Stewart Cheifet passed away, on December 28th, at the age of 87.
Through The Computer Chronicles, Stewart inspired a generation of computer nerds (myself included).
Back in 2017, Stewart was kind enough to sit down and chat with me. He was kind and amazing.
May his memory be a blessing.

It's DOOM’s 32nd birthday today! It amazes me how far this rebellion of a game has travelled. We wanted to build the the greatest game we could imagine playing, and generations of players have kept it alive. It’s one of the great privileges of my life.

This is the best laptop in the world. Period.
M4, 32 GB RAM, 1TB SSD, 18 hours of battery life, 13 inches, 2.7 lbs.
$1,699 with the student discount.
I've used it for 6 months, and I haven't missed a Pro, not even once.
This laptop has no competition.
Brian Kernighan: ”I have written only one Rust program, so you should take all of this with a giant grain of salt, and I found it a pain that I just couldn’t grok the mechanisms that were required to do memory safety in a program where memory wasn’t even an issue!”

🚀 Excited to share our #SIGGRAPH2025 paper: “Dynamic Mesh Processing on the GPU”
📍 Talk this week: s2025.conference-schedule.or…
📄 Paper: escholarship.org/uc/item/1sm…
🛠 Docs and Code: ahdhn.github.io/RXMeshDocs/
We present a GPU system for dynamic triangle mesh processing with:
📐 Rapid mesh connectivity & attribute updates via patch-based, shared-memory design
🧠 Speculative processing for conflicts with cheap rollback
🕸️ A cavity operator unifying all dynamic mesh edits (collapse, split, flip)
Performance:
🏎️ 10× faster than multi-threaded CPU
🚀 100× faster than single-threaded CPU
📈 Outperforms state-of-the-art GPU static data structures in speed & memory

So much of DOOM’s soul is down to heavy metal, and without Ozzy and Sabbath, I am not sure it would have been the same. Certainly, I would not have been the same. Metal gave a voice to a whole generation of kids that didn’t fit in for one reason or another. It still does. RIP Ozzy.

[1/2] My @BetterSoftwareC talk is up! It's called "The Big OOPs: Anatomy of a Thirty-Five Year Mistake". I went through a mountain of historical documents to put this beast together. Only a small fraction of my research could be featured directly in the talk...

Long before LaTeX, most mathematical theses relied on hand-inserted symbols.
But in 1968, Dennis Ritchie - creator of C - typeset his entire thesis, subscripts and all, with astonishing accuracy.
How exactly he pulled it off remains a mystery.

1. We often observe power laws between loss and compute: loss = a * flops ^ b + c
2. Models are rapidly becoming more efficient, i.e. use less compute to reach the same loss
But: which innovations actually change the exponent in the power law (b) vs change only the constant (a)?
