Just wrapped up filming the last lecture for my graduate "Shape Analysis" course (@MIT @MITEECS @MIT_CSAIL 6.838)! Check out this playlist for 36 hours, 57 minutes, 39 sec of [admittedly idiosyncratic] lectures covering topics in applied geometry: youtube.com/playlist?list=PL… 🎉🚨🔥💻
Yikes @Starbucks @Delta my flight is in two days, not tomorrow. This spam message really scared me!

Andy is right. There absolutely ARE mathematicians excited about using AI for further exploration, including the guest we talked to today. But to my mind, that's a good reason for the labs to not just use their internal models to nuke the field with proofslop.
Some notes on what's going on in math with AI, based on this phenomenal podcast episode:
--There are infinite possible facts in math, and the whole point is to allocate our attention and effort to a tiny subset that humans deem most interesting and valuable to learn
--We are currently tremendously bandwidth-constrained on verifying mathematical results because we still rely on human experts to tell us whether a result, even if we assume it's correct, is interesting and valuable
--If you listen to this episode, one of the things that is so striking is how interesting, curious, and helpful the guest, Justin Solomon is. He is nowhere close to being replaced by AI. He's a total delight!
This is a really great episode, I strongly recommend. I queued it up for my zone 2 run today but it was so exciting that I defnitely ended up in zone 3 at least.

My inbox is being flooded with fully AI-generated emails from prospective students. I tried to work out why I can't bring myself to read them, and ended up with some thoughts and advice for writing cold emails in the age of AI.

Tomorrow at #CVPR2026
Come join our full-day tutorial on analytic understanding of diffusion models.
How do diffusion models generalize? What outputs can you expect from your generative model? Where should you direct resources to make it better?
This and much more on a full day tutorial with wonderful @yuancy @MasonKamb @CScarvelis @WangBinxu @ZKadkhodaie

🚀 I'm delighted to share an **open postdoc position** joint between our group at @MIT_CSAIL and @MITIBMLab, mentored by me, Ankit Gupta, @LChoshen, and friends; the start date can be as early as fall 2026.
We are excited for candidates with directions of their own in mind that links to our ongoing work. If you're interested, reach out ASAP ([email protected]) with a CV and description of the research you might do. Keep things short; refrain from AI "slop" as part of your inquiry.
Our ACM @siggraph 2026 Technical Papers Committee meeting in Chicago: Great discussions, great people, and great beer. Nothing replaces catching up in person. It was also my first time visiting the @UChicago, a really nice campus and an excellent venue.
Also got to celebrate a few accepted papers, my @mbzuai students will be in for a nice surprise :-)
Great to be at the in-person ACM SIGGRAPH Technical Papers Committee 2026 meeting at the @UChicago. Wonderful catching up with @siggraph friends and meeting new faces. Submissions keep growing, with a clear rise in AI image/video generation and agentic approaches, while traditional areas remain strong.
We also had thoughtful, intense discussions on responsibly incorporating AI into the review process while preserving the rigor and quality that make SIGGRAPH unique.
Truly an honor to serve. Thanks Miri Ben Chen (@TechnionLive ), @JustinMSolomon (@MIT ), and Leona Caffey (@siggraph ) for the incredible organization.
