Finally. This is one of the most humanitarian things I’ve seen in a long time. As a mother who lost a child to fentanyl poisoning, this means something to me. It cannot bring my daughter back, but taking drug traffickers off the streets could spare another family our nightmare. I have compassion for people trapped in addiction. Leaving them in squalor, surrounded by predators selling them poison, is not compassion. It is abandonment. Thank you to LAPD and federal law enforcement for working together on this operation targeting suspected drug traffickers exploiting people on Skid Row. But accountability cannot stop with the dealers. Karen Bass and every elected official responsible for overseeing homeless programs owe the public answers. Where did the money go? Who actually received help? Who got paid while people remained on the streets? Audit the homeless and diversion programs. Follow every taxpayer dollar. Where there is fraud or theft, prosecute it—regardless of anyone’s political connections. These people are not a revenue stream, political props, or a pool of votes to exploit. They are somebody’s children. Their lives matter, and so do the families waiting for them to come home. Real crimes. Real victims. Real accountability. He also cosponsored a federal wage mandate that the CBO later estimated could eliminate roughly 300,000 jobs—and voted for economy-wide cap-and-trade that would raise the cost of energy and doing business. FERC has neglected California for far too long—and this is about much more than one dam. Our water supply is threatened. Our energy grid is unreliable. Our forests and communities burn year after year. Californians are desperate for real federal leadership. I have written legislation to protect our water, strengthen wildfire prevention, and help save our state. We do not need more studies, delays, or bureaucratic excuses. Before FERC allows critical infrastructure to be destroyed, it must guarantee that a reliable replacement is built, funded, tested, and operating.
