Uganda's Fourth National Development Plan (#NDPIV ) places strong emphasis on Agro-industrialisation, environmental sustainability, and inclusive growth. Carbon farming sits at the intersection of these priorities, offering a pathway to boost farm productivity and competitiveness while advancing national mitigation goals, landscape restoration, and resilience.
Today, technical officers from Government Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) have started a three-day training to advance climate action, agricultural productivity, and rural development through the development of national carbon farming guidelines.
Delivering the keynote on behalf of the Executive Director, the Manager, Production, Trade and Tourism, Mr Ronald Kaggwa, underscored that carbon farming presents an opportunity to build a more resilient and productive agricultural system while contributing meaningfully to climate mitigation.
He emphasised that these guidelines must be more than another policy document sitting on a shelf, rather should provide clear, actionable answers to the fundamental questions that will determine real impact:
1. What qualifies as a carbon farming practice?
2. Which practices suit different farming systems and ecological zones?
3. How should carbon benefits be measured and verified?
4. Who owns the resulting carbon benefits?
5. How should farmers and other land users participate?
6. How should benefits and revenues be shared?
7. What safeguards are needed to protect land rights, livelihoods, food security, and biodiversity?
8. Which institutions will regulate, monitor, verify, and enforce compliance?
Getting these answers right will be critical to ensuring carbon farming delivers real value for Uganda's farmers, ecosystems, and climate commitments.

Complement your colleagues, the VHTs. For peculiar concerns, always consult.”
Bukedea County MP Hon. Okwere repeatedly echoed the message “Kisanja No Sleep, Kisanja No Corruption,” while highlighting snake bites among the health concerns affecting communities in the area and calling for timely medical attention.
