Whatever the intervention or procedure, the patient's well-being must be the primary consideration. How did the NHS move so far from this principle? We must return to proper, informed consent.

Of course it could get worse. Parents could be refused the right to evidence that their dead child actually consented to being killed. Canadians may be falling into the abyss, but the abyss is infinitely deep, and they show every sign of insisting on looking for the bottom.

Peggie, the nurse who was suspended after objecting to sharing a female changing room with a transgender doctor, has called for NHS Scotland to follow suit.
She said: “I welcome this common sense guidance from NHS England which makes clear that patients’ biological sex will determine which hospital wards they will be accommodated in.
The safety, privacy and dignity of female patients shouldn’t depend on where they are hospitalised in Great Britain.”
She added: “The rights of female hospital patients in Scotland must no longer be sacrificed because of gender ideology and NHS Scotland must now urgently commit to implementing similar guidance.”
We agree @NHSScotland can no longer ignore the right of women in hospital to privacy, dignity and safety

🚨226 children, some as young as 11 years old, are about to be given £500 worth of shopping vouchers by the UK Government in order to undertake a puberty blockers trial, placing them on a pathway to infertility.
This is the medical scandal of our time.

We have a big problem that once public health declares something a "public good" then people will assume it can do no harm.
This is unscientific,

If there is such a thing as a “sex dysphoria”, which really is just a body dysmorphia, then the last place man who has it would want to be is in a women’s change room. The difference in his body to women’s bodies would be, by sheer definition of the condition, extremely distressing.
Yet men who claim to be women on the basis of a “dysphoria” want nothing more than to be in the women’s change room & are delighted by it. They’re even unbothered by the distress their presence causes women, and flaunt their maleness.
This can only be because they are not experiencing any kind of dysphoria/dysmorphia. Instead, they have a sexual fetish, including voyeurism, and their own behavior proves it.
Once a man tells the lie that he is a woman, don’t expect the truth about anything else.

Transgenderism is one of the most sinister belief systems ever created, as it not only punishes people for acknowledging their basic human instincts, it makes promises to its adherents that the medicine they take can’t possibly deliver. Not one part of it is true. It is evil.

This mode of thinking about representative democracy makes it impossible to understand anything about the world. Trump is an actor following a script. Studying the banksters who write the script may be fruitful. Studying the actor will never be.

Tears in my eyes as I watch today's events in France. History is unfolding before us and please, pleade @SkyNews spare us your 1960s polytechnic conclusion that "inequality" is the root cause. Undoubtedly it's onecause but this is so much more than a socioeconomic phenomenon. There's nihilism, atomisation, political extremism, cultural relativism and, I absolutely believe, a spiritual darkness too. Pray for France. Pray, pray, pray.

The SNP has never struck me as a party that welcomes scrutiny, transparency or awkward questions, so this comes as no great surprise. If you can't silence your critics, I suppose the next best thing is to pretend they don't exist.

Fiona Godlee, editor-in-chief of The BMJ from 2005 to 2021 and the first woman to hold the post, has been one of the most consistent high-profile critics of pharmaceutical industry influence on medical science, journals, and clinical practice.
She has repeatedly argued that the industry’s commercial incentives systematically distort the evidence base that doctors and patients rely on. In a 2016 interview, she was blunt: “I think we have to call it what it is. It is a corruption of the scientific process.” She keeps a doctor-shaped puppet with strings on her desk as a reminder of those hidden influences, noting that commercial and academic pressures are inevitable and that pretending otherwise is absurd. Patients are harmed, she has said, when unsafe drugs and devices reach the market because of biased or incomplete research.
Godlee has also described medical journals as, to a large extent, the “marketing arm of the pharmaceutical industry.” In 2011 testimony to the UK Commons Science and Technology Committee, she stated that journals are largely naïve about the industry’s “extremely dubious” practices and that editorial decisions are often shaped by the revenue from reprint sales of large industry-sponsored trials. “Publishers benefit, but I don’t think science benefits,” she said, and called for far stronger conflict-of-interest rules and transparency.
Under her leadership, The BMJ pursued concrete investigations and reforms: exposing conflicts of interest among WHO advisers during the H1N1 pandemic, pressing Roche to release full Tamiflu data (later reanalyses found limited benefit), and supporting the Restoring Invisible and Abandoned Trials (RIAT) initiative that re-examined the infamous Study 329 on paroxetine in adolescents, revealing increased harms and lack of efficacy. In a 2019 campaign with other experts, she and colleagues wrote that “endemic financial entanglement with industry is distorting the production and use of healthcare evidence, causing harm to individuals and waste for health systems,” and argued that governments should fund independent trials rather than rely on manufacturer-sponsored ones.
Godlee’s consistent position has been that science can self-correct only with transparency, independent evaluation, and a willingness to challenge commercial pressures—not under a blanket of secrecy or financial dependence.

Far from improving grades and attainment, the creeping use of screens across the UK's classrooms is a clear and present safeguarding nightmare, causing children an array of physical and developmental problems.
A bold, forward thinking government would apply an emergency handbrake to the use of screens across British schools and only re-introduce them in the limited number of cases where educational benefit is genuinely shown to outweigh proven, observable harm.
Brilliant work from @safe_screens and @HP4SaferScreens in bringing this issue to the forefront.
