🗺️ @Da_Pacific explored map-making with Datawrapper, turning tables into publish-ready maps without GIS software. 💻 @schubertda1 showed how D3.js can bring bespoke visualisation ideas to life through code.

🔶 Ever had a chart idea you couldn't find a template for? At #VizChitra2026, @schubertda1 of @RevisualLabs led Draw with Data: Custom Dataviz Using D3, a workshop that taught how to create bespoke charts that go beyond standard templates.

Last week, team RVL headed to Bangalore for #vizchitra2026, India's data visualisation conference! Returning for the second year in a row as co-organisers, attendees, volunteers, and proud silver sponsors, we loved reconnecting with old friends and trading ideas with fellow data viz-ards in India. We engaged with the community at our stall by: Handing out goodies like colour scale bookmarks, tip sheets, punny stickers, and other keepsakes. Showcasing our work: We made a @chezVoila inspired flip-board, showcasing the before-and-afters of charts we've made!

The Census of India has never been very reader-friendly. But in 1970s, a series of events led to government putting effort into publishing very interesting, truly "Indian" #dataviz for the average reader. But why? Our new data story, with an explorer and some comics! More ⬇️

Replying to @rhea_prad
@rhea_prad and I have been tracking our @NYTGames (Wordle, Connections and the Mini) for the past two years. I decided to analyze our 4,200 gameplays with #rstats to determine a winner and made some festively embroidered charts with ggplot. Have a read (link in reply).

Last week I completed work on a visual explainer which had been sitting on my shelf for ages. This piece on Benford's Law talks about how numbers in the real world, from finance to publications aren't quite as random as they seem on the surface. 🔗Link below

Benford's Law does say that smaller digits are more common, but what's more interesting is the fact that the distribution it proposes stays almost exactly the same across datasets!

Which is the same distribution which keeps popping up when I dive into dozens of @OurWorldInData datasets, catalogue numbers in National Geographic magazines and more in the article! benfords-law-explainer.netli…

I did a few dork searches to find instances of AI-generated text in government documents. Not that they were better before, but since we have an incentive structure of length equal to rigor right from schools means that institutional generation of slop was inevitable. 🔗 below.

Today @Vonterinon and I are launching CBFC Watch, an archive of over 1 lakh censorship records for ~18k movies released in India since 2017. For the first time, you can search for any movie and see how they were modified before release. 🔗cbfc.watch

Back from VizChitra and admittedly been slow to share the progress on the personal site - but we now have a navbar! (and a tiny sneak peak of the WIP hero section + illustrations)

Still feel like I could improve the viz in the dropdown but right now I'm jut focusing on getting stuff "good enough" to share. Funny how everything is like 80% of the way to what I want it to be but you wouldn't quite be able to tell by just looking at it.

Had a blast meeting all my favourite online rectangles at @VizChitra
Team RVL met at Bangalore to attend @VizChitra (India’s first dataviz conference) and to celebrate our studio’s 2-year birthday + IIB Awards win! We spent the weekend with our full-time team and almost every contractor who has worked with us over the years 🎂

I've been meaning to work more in public, posting snippets of my progress on side projects and things I find interesting along the way. Hopefully having things out in the open might help others pick and steal their favourite bits or spark some new ideas.

The current project I'm working on is revamping my personal site - my corner of the internet where I plan to share my thoughts, niche interests and what I'm currently working on - which I will soon dread updating. With the most recent addition being the site footer:

The grid uses a wave function collapse algorithm to generate a connected city grid from a few hand-drawn tiles. The inspiration is from idle-style games which run in the background as the user is busy elsewhere. As more time is spent on the page, more tiles are added to the grid
