Over 270,000 newborns have been registered through Kenya’s digital birth register, developed in partnership with Estonia 🇰🇪🤝🇪🇪
For the first time, parents in Kenya can register their child's birth online, eliminating lengthy paperwork and reducing waiting times from months to just days.
Developed through collaboration between the Estonian private sector, #ESTDEV and Kenyan partners, the digital system securely transfers newborn data directly from hospitals to civil registration services, making the process faster, more accurate and more accessible for families across the country. 🌍

A former Wagner fighter, now in Ukrainian captivity, said Russian mercenaries in Mali used captured Africans as live subjects for brutal "tactical medicine training."
In 2023-2024, Russian instructors deliberately maimed African prisoners, after which the mercenaries practiced stopping bleeding.
Explosives were strapped to one prisoner’s leg and detonated. Russians then practiced applying a tourniquet and bandaging the wound.
Another prisoner was shot in an artery near the armpit, while another was used for knife training - Russians practiced stabbing a person in the heart.
Another prisoner had his leg chopped off with an axe.
According to the Russian mercenary, all of the prisoners died during these "training exercises."
He was in Mali from September 2023 to April 2024. After returning to Russia, he signed a contract with the Russian defense ministry in 2025 and later joined the GRU’s 14th separate special forces brigade. He was captured while fighting against Ukraine.

At @KenyattaUni, students are helping change that narrative. 🇰🇪🤝🇪🇪
With funding from #ESTDEV, the Estonian Academy of Arts, SEI Tallinn and 🇰🇪 partners created the Nairobi Circular Design Hub that has now become a permanent space where students and young designers are transforming used clothing and textile waste into new products, business ideas and opportunities.

Estonian programming school //kood officially launched its first on-site study programme in Kenya 🎉🇰🇪
Out of more than 800 applicants, 54 learners successfully completed the intensive selection sprint and are now part of the Batch 1 who have begun their 12-month journey at kood/Nairobi!
Built on an education model born in Estonia 🇪🇪, funded by #ESTDEV, and launched together with Kenyatta University, kood/Nairobi is redefining how people can learn coding and access digital skills training across Kenya.

Estonia supports greater geographical accuracy on world maps, but it should never come at the expense of territorial integrity.
Estonia therefore abstained on the UN resolution, in solidarity with Ukraine.
Maps must show Ukraine within its internationally recognised borders, including Crimea.

Ukraine abstained from a UN vote adopting the Equal Earth map after the projection showed occupied Crimea separated from its territory.

The diplomatic season has begun! 🇪🇪
Today, I had the honor of opening the annual Ambassadors’ Conference in Estonia.
I shared the key priorities for the upcoming foreign policy season, stressing the need to achieve a just peace in Ukraine and secure Ukraine’s future in the EU and NATO.
We see how Putin continues to play on fears of escalation and consistently tests the West. With its hybrid actions, Russia seeks to create divisions and weaken Western support for Ukraine. We need vigilance and unity, not alarmism.
Our ambassadors play a significant role in upholding Estonia’s interests amid the current complex global security landscape.
A week full of important discussions lies ahead, and I am glad to tackle it alongside such a committed team of ambassadors.

The European Union is Kenya's largest single export destination and a strategic bilateral partner. Our decades-long relations have been boosted by the signing of the European Partnership Agreement (EPA) in July 2024.
The EPA provides Kenyan goods, including cut flowers, tea, coffee, and horticulture, duty-free free and quota-free access to the EU market. On its part, the European Union exports to Kenya machinery, chemical and mineral products.
Since the signing of EPA, our trade has increased by 20 per cent, bringing annual trade to $3.8 billion (KSh494 billion).
Our comprehensive relationship also spans digital innovation, climate resilience and regional security.

Together with @CIVITTA_com , #ESTDEV supported 50 digital and green startups from six African countries through two business accelerators. Out of 402 applicants, founders gained practical skills, stronger investment readiness and valuable European connections.
