The eradication of the buffalo also served the goal pursued by the United States as a means of ending all resistance by Native Americans on the Great Plains by starving them to death—monstrous crime
American sugar refineries used charcoal made from bison bones to remove color from sugar syrup. After the great slaughter, there was another business waiting on the Plains. People gathered the skeletons, hauled them to railroad sidings and sold them by the ton. Factories farther east wanted the bones for fertilizer and animal charcoal. That famous photograph of a mountain of bison skulls was taken at Michigan Carbon Works near Detroit in 1892. You’re looking at a factory’s supply of raw material. The company had been founded in 1873 to turn bones into charcoal for sugar refining. Railroads made the trade practical: freight cars carrying goods west could return east loaded with bones. Some homesteaders paid for provisions by gathering skeletons before they had a crop to sell. Native people and Métis families also entered the trade as the disappearance of the herds destroyed their livelihoods. At Devils Lake in 1885, buyers weighed loaded wagons, sent them to unload beside the tracks, then weighed the empty wagons and paid the difference. Boxcars took the bones to Chicago, Detroit and St. Louis. The business followed the expanding railroad into country where bones could still be found. Eventually, dealers had a supply problem. They were running out of skeletons.

When cattle escape the slaughterhouse, many folks watching on the news will cheer for the animals, recognizing an underdog story. Then they will sit down to a burger for lunch. Why do we cheer for a few select animals and sentence the others to death?

“You have 2 minutes to leave your home. If you don’t leave, we will shoot everyone.” If that was me, you can bet I'd want to take up arms against the occupying army.
In Hebron, 22-year-old university student Ahmad Imraish describes how Israeli forces forced his family out of their home at gunpoint and demolished it without warning.

There are some slippery slopes we should actually slide all the way down.
A common misconception is that people oppose the foie gras bad because they think eating foie gras is okay. No; the crucial point is that people know that once they admit that animal cruelty is a relevant factor in deciding what they eat, they’ve already lost.

i genuinely wish the climate change deniers were right. life would be a little bit less crushing without the knowledge that mass extinction and death awaits us.

To love them, or even one of them, you have to get to know them as individuals, just like us. That's hard when capitalists keep their victims hidden away in factory farms & distant ranches, far from most people who never meet a pig 1-to-1.
Love pigs, don't eat them #GoVegan

Canada, understand this: 1) Doctors didn't build publicly funded healthcare. You did. 2) Most of you can't afford private, profiteer healthcare. 3) Doctors aren't going to fix this. We follow the money, just like you. 4) Only the public can save publicly funded healthcare.
Avi Lewis: "We must reverse the privatization of our healthcare system immediately."

What most people don't notice about Tartakovsky is how strong impact of soviet animation on him is. He was born in USSR and when I saw Samurai Jack first time as a kid I could barely tell if cartoon was American or soviet
I like how this design demonstrates how far Jack has fallen. He now not only has lowered himself to using guns like some mercenary but he also just visually looks like one of the agents of Aku he would have one shot in earlier seasons

Sherman has been keeping a watchful eye on Mallory’s belly. Sometimes he looks so interested that you’d swear he can hear Gwen in there and is already preparing for his role as big brother. Of course, knowing Sherman, an occasional peck may be part of his proposed sibling management strategy. We’ll be supervising that relationship closely. 😂❤️ Watching him watch Mallory makes me think about how lucky Gwen is to have him as a big sister. But even more so how lucky she is to have Mallory as her mom. I already see her motherly love in the way she comforts our animals, patiently navigates Huckleberry’s jealous demands for attention, and makes room for Sherman’s turkey cuddles in bed at night. This is the person who saw a little one-eyed toad in the road and couldn’t leave her without making sure she was safe. From the smallest rescued toad to the biggest cow, Mallory is filled with the ability to show unconditional love accompanied by patience and a desire to make sure everyone it happy and healthy. Gwen will grow up surrounded by that love, and I can’t wait to watch Mallory become the wonderful mom I already know she’ll be. ❤️. And I look forward to Gwen growing up sharing those amazing attributes. And just for the record, this was a few weeks ago and Mallory is much more pregnant now 🤰
