ElectroMag Nodes now available on BlenderMarket and Gumroad! Give it a go! I would appreciate any comments/feedback. Keep in mind that this is a first attempt at creating a basic electromagnetics solver in Blender, expect more features and nodes to be added blendermarket.com/products/e… highvoltage.gumroad.com/l/el… #geometrynodes #simulationnodes #b3d #blender3d #electromagnetics #engineers #engineering #electronics #science #physics #educational

The OS3M Mouse project by Colton Baldridge uses an inductive sensing approach to create a 3D mouse, measuring changes in a coil’s inductance to detect the position and movement of a nearby conductive object. This makes it an excellent application for testing my PEEC-based inductance solver. In this video, I demonstrate how quickly the solver can calculate the inductance of the sensor coil. I recreate the PCB spiral coil geometry as a curve object in Blender and then simply apply the PEEC modifier to calculate its inductance. The solver also accounts for the numerical limitations of Blender’s Geometry Nodes system, warning the user when floating-point precision becomes insufficient for the calculations. In a follow-up post, I’ll demonstrate the eddy-current solver and show how the coil’s inductance changes as the mouse moves. The PEEC solver is coming soon as a free update to Electromag Nodes.

It's been a while since I did good render of a PCB, been mainly focusing on electromagnetic simulation tools inside Blender. This a preview of a quick project currently working on showcasing the open-source OS3M mouse design.

Blender geometry nodes has recently added a number of nodes that support Lists, one of them is the Split String node which can be used to make node presets by using text. Here I've created a procedural MLCC capacitor generator with a number of size presets, the sizes are defined by simply typing the dimensions

When winding a toroid, it is recommended to evenly distribute the windings for better core utilisation and to reduce parasitic capacitance, but what happens if you bunch the turns closely, does the inductance increase or decrease? This video shows the inductance calculation in real time for an RF toroid as the windings spread is changed, I also did measurements to compare between evenly distributed and tightly grouped windings using the LDC1314 Inductance to Digital Converter from @TXInstruments

More equipment and tools are now being powered completely by USB-PD. I recently got this Fnirisi soldering iron which comes with a cute storage box and adesoldering tweezers, both are powered by USB-C PD at 20V. They work really well, they might struggle sometimes with large thermal mass and heavy copper as do most other soldering irons

My geometry nodes PEEC inductance solver can now take into account air gaps in a magnetic cores. This animations shows how having an air gap in a toroid will lower its permeability such that its effective permeability becomes dictated by the size of the air gap. #b3d #geometrynodes #science #engineering

I can model magnetics and calculate inductance of toroids! this a realtime PEEC solver running entirely inside geometry nodes, you can see the impact of changing turns, their spread across the toroid, how tight they are and changing the wire radius. Coming soon to ElectroMag Nodes #b3d #geometrynodes #electronics #science

Here are some high res renders of my simulation for induced eddy currents in conductive planes. A coil carrying high frequency AC when placed above a metal sheet will cause eddy currents to be induced in the sheet that cancel the magnetic field and reduce the coil’s inductance. Eddy current shielding is used in certain applications such as wireless power transfer and induction heating to create an asymmetric magnetic field that is strong on one side and weak on the other. #b3d

Now can simulate eddy currents with ElectroMag Node! This animation shows the a high frequency coil above a conductive plane, eddy currents are induced in the plane that cancel the magnetic field and reduce the coil’s inductance. Running entirely inside Blender with geometry nodes #b3d #science #engineering #geometrynodes

continuing with my PEEC solver in Blender for inductors. Now I have a basic Python/Numba code that can calculate skin and proximity. You can see as the frequency increases the current shifts towards to the outer surface and also gets affected by adjacent turns #b3d #geometrynodes #electronics #Technology #science

Kicad can export layout and individual nets as STL files, which can then be imported in #b3d with the new Import STL node. You can either import the entire geometry or selected specific nets by typing their name. The imported geometry can then be scaled up to view a net of interest in more details like this pcb planar transformer design #geometrynodes #electronics #Engineering #3dart #3DModel #kicad

I'm experimenting with the new features in both #kicad and Blender for exporting and importing geometry. KiCAD now allows you to filter and export selected nets from the PCB as STL or STEP files, and Blender now has new import STL nodes in geometry nodes, which means you can select the nets that you want to visualise with having to import the entire geometry. #b3d #geometrynodes #electronics #Engineering

simulating layouts with Blender FastHenry! you can now export spice netlist of your Blender scene and run a layout spice simulation. Here I am using kiCAD Ngspice to see study the switch node voltage ringing of NMOS half-bridge with TO-220 packages. You can see how moving DC link capacitors closer, and shortening leads reduces the amount of ringing and overshoot. @Blender @kicad_pcb @DanielBogdanoff @eevblog
