GENEVA, Oct 14 (Reuters) - Hospitals across Yemen are struggling to cope with a sharp rise in war casualties, while intensified fighting along multiple front lines has cut off aid to around 800,000 people, humanitarian agencies said on Wednesday.
Front-line hospitals in areas including Marib, Taiz and Yemen's Red Sea coast are seeing unprecedented numbers of weapon-wounded patients, with some facilities admitting more than 700 casualties in a single week, according to the Red Cross.

RIYADH, Oct 7 (Reuters) - Syria is carefully considering providing military assistance to key ally Saudi Arabia amid an escalating war against the Iran-backed Houthis in Yemen, a US official and a Syrian military official briefed on the matter said.
Options being considered include defensive aid to protect the kingdom from attacks, or deployment of forces in an offensive capacity to help Saudi-backed Yemeni troops fight the Houthis, the sources said.

I'm actually quite shocked and heartbroken for Oman that the co-pilot was reportedly an Omani. It's almost unheard of for Omanis to be involved in terrorism, Oman is a proudly peaceful and tolerant country which has historically maintained good relations with all its neighbours, including, by the standards of the region, with Israel. I spent significant time in Oman during my PhD research and Omanis would proudly tell me that, back then, not a single citizen had joined IS or Al Qaeda because the Ibadi form of Islam they follow encourages pacifism. I know this event will be generating shockwaves and soul searching within Omani society.
