There's not a more fitting podcast for me than Low Fidelity by @rizwanjavaid bc it's about creatives overcoming their fears and inner-critic so they can reach their true potential. Exactly how I feel about speaking on a podcast! Our chat is out now, check it out!
In the latest episode of the Low Fidelity podcast, I speak with @samanta, a designer and mentor who took charge of her career by setting goals and standing up to the impostor syndrome she faced. She has a good listener challenge! 🎯 Listen & subscribe: anchor.fm/low-fidelity/episo…

My employer has committed to making our product accesible. My dream. I've been advocating for accessibility since day 1. And now I get to play a key role in the process as an Accessibility Lead! Hi #a11y community 👋🏼 The imposter syndrome is STRONG. Please say it's normal 🙈

I feel this even tho I haven't dealt with debt. Buying a home never felt achievable until I moved to Sweden. Now I have a condo and I pinch myself every time I look out the window. (Video description in thread)
This is the first time in my life I feel financially secure and what a feeling that is 😭 I used to be $50k in credit card and medical debt and paid it all off. Not only that but we’ve bought a house and I’ve built up savings. It honestly feels unreal ❤️😭

Video description - I walk from one room to another showing the view out my window and balcony: a blue sky, lots of tall green trees, and a concrete trail.
The excessive self advocating and other games we #WomenInTech need to play to get the same pay as our male colleagues leaves me with so much less time to actually build the career I want. My solace is teaching everything I learn to the next person, specially other afro Latinas.

I must have the friendliest immigrant face in Stockholm. Fellow immigrants stop me all the time for directions in the metro, but sadly I'm the most clueless of all of us 😂

I worked out with a personal trainer today and... is this me now? I'm able to spend on self-care like this, and *allow* myself to? I'm not only sore 🏋🏽‍♀️, I'm proud #ImmigrantFinance
@SegunOlaLive on the problem with the Software Development Lifecycle: "The majority of people building products do not suffer from a debilitating disability—their biases have shaped our development values and culture." #AxeCon

I really wish I had removed the word "debilitating" here. Doesn't feel right.

"Please take some time to really learn keyboard interaction. It will make you a better designer. Keyboard accessibility is one of the most important aspects of digital accessibility. Screen readers & other assistive technology mimic keyboard functionality." —@A11yAlicia #AxeCon

Main takeaway from every #AxeCon talk I've attended is how nonsensical it is to leave accessibility "for later". Everyone keeps learning the same lesson over an over again. Fighting the same battles. Tech, we need to do better.
"Accessibility is 20 percent of a project when it is considered from the start and implemented during the project lifecycle. Accessibility can be up to 70 percent of a project when it is addressed only once at the end of the project when it is completed." -@daxjcastro #axecon

"Disability rights are human rights—it's common sense" "Don't wait for the lawsuits" "Don’t succumb to learned helplessness" "It's better to have things work from the start" "Don’t settle for fixing broken things" "Don't ask for permission, ask for forgiveness instead"

"It would be nice to have no issues... That's not going to happen, really. Everything is important, but if it's blocking someone from doing a basic action on your site, you need to make that a priority." @ScopicEngineer #AxeCon #AccessibilityTesting #BacklogParalysis

A disabled person on Clubhouse room I was in shared that disabled people are among the most loyal customers and this is why:
I hear ya with the #BoycottAmazon but frankly, there aren't a whole lot of storefronts online that are accessible to the blind/low vision but Amazon has made their site accessible. If I truly need something this week and can't find an accessible alternative I don't have a choice.

This can very well be one of the strongest arguments we can make to our organizations when they don't listen to our advocacy for inclusive design.
Designing for different cultures makes me so excited. Throw accessibility in there and I’ll be first in line. Can’t wait for this chat today @ 14:00 CET (8am EST)

Oh yes, I will format every title with a proper heading style so I can generate a table of contents.
