Too many in Silicon Valley believe that "success" for humanity means controlling the largest possible share of matter and energy in the universe, which is a task that seems well beyond human limits, and because of this they gradually collapse into being successionists. If instead they understood success in human existence as coming from our inner lives, relationships, creativity, cooperation, and the greatness we can exhibit in the struggle to overcome our limitations, maybe they would not be so pessimistic.
there is no difference between the view called “capital realism” and the other called “successionism”. you can see elon circling and sadly acquiescing to these ideas over the decades. but he is one of the only people that can command capital into human shapes so i hope he tries

... AI lacks the confidence to step back and let the ideas engage the reader. Its motto is Always Be Closing, and the effect is cloying. It's a strange thing to say about AI writing, but it's too needy to be enjoyable.

New in @AmJPsychiatry — personally I think this is my best paper so far. Highest statistical rigor, strongest causal inference (via a series of natural experiments), and multiple clinical applications. Thanks @KJBinSTL and team tagged below. psychiatryonline.org/doi/10.…

What’s the optimal TMS target for smoking addiction? @SK__PhD @Brain_Circuits and @tweetnicolepete @UCLA found that connectivity of 243 TMS sites to a lesion-based addiction remission circuit led to better response. Out now in @APAPubJournals

Technological innovation can be a form of participation in the divine act of creation. It carries an ethical and spiritual weight, for every design choice expresses a vision of humanity. The Church therefore calls all builders of #AI to cultivate moral discernment as a fundamental part of their work—to develop systems that reflect justice, solidarity, and a genuine reverence for life.

"Don't think about what you want to be, but what you want to do." As someone searching for purpose, Feynman's words stopped me in my tracks. Maybe the purpose isn't some distant title, it's in the relentless curiosity to understand how the brain and our treatments actually work
