idk how widespread this is, but back when I was hiring for a pretty basic data analytics/engineering role that really just required some fluency with Python and SQL, HR would tell me all the time with a straight face they just couldn't find any marginally qualified resumes for me to even look at. And when I got frustrated and asked to see some resumes they thought "weren't qualified" it became clear there was a huge disconnect
During a business trip I heard about multiple companies who are struggling to hire people. Jobs available but they can't fill them. There is a huge disconnect in the job market somewhere- the systems responsible for efficient and effective recruitment have completely failed.

One important distinction in the Alamodome tragedy: The American Conference, who understands a little something about the military academies followed casualty update protocols from Air Force, in alignment with UTSA & Navy, about game continuation. Military notification protocols exist for a reason. Families come first theamerican.org/news/2026/10…

GEN P.G.T. Beauregard started the Civil War when he ordered the bombardment of Ft Sumter on April 12, 1861, forcing his old West Point instructor to surrender. Today, the "Little Napoleon" rests inside the majestic Army of Tennessee Mausoleum at Metairie Cemetery in New Orleans.

I face more ideological resistance from students today than I did 10 years ago. Here's what I mean. Yesterday, I had a group of 14-year-olds argue with me about capitalization. Many of them rarely use capital letters correctly in their writing, and they genuinely believe capitalization is unnecessary, or even "dumb." When I told them that I take points off for ignoring capitalization, they insisted it was unfair. Ten years ago, I almost never had conversations like this. Students might have forgotten the rules. They might have been careless. But they rarely argued that the rules themselves didn't matter.

Can you believe Nolan Ryan, Juan Marichal, Curt Schilling, and Andy Pettitte combined for 1,061 wins, 14,064 strikeouts, and 19 All-Star selections - but zero Cy Young Awards? Proof that hardware doesn't define greatness.

Our hearts are with the family of Megan Lambert, who has been identified as the teacher shot and killed yesterday at Silver Rail Elementary School. Megan was only 25-years-old. In a statement, Megan’s family shared the following: “She loved Silver Rail. This was her dream job. Megan was compassionate and had a huge heart. She always fought for the underdog and those with special needs… We would like the other families to know they are in our thoughts and prayers. Megan loved those children, and so we will show you love for her." Megan also worked as a volleyball coach at Central Oregon Volleyball Club, where in her first year coaching, she turned down payment so that the money could go to the families of the players who could not afford to play. She was a selfless, beloved teacher, sister, and daughter who will be deeply missed. Megan deserved better, and we will always fight in her honor.
