President Dallin H. Oaks of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints welcomed religious leaders from around the world to Salt Lake City on Thursday, praising efforts to build peace and understanding while respecting differences in belief.
“People of goodwill, compassion, and a desire to understand and help one another — without demanding a compromise of distinctive commitments — are at the core of peacemaking,” he said during the opening ceremony of the G20 Interfaith Forum in the Salt Lake Tabernacle.

“I was raised to be polite and respectful and courteous…I would say that the idea that it was more important to be nice than it was to listen to my gut feeling was wrong,” Smart told People.
The same "niceness" applies to threatening ideologies.

I was mid-hip thrust when I found out @Shanemgillis had called me a whore. Technically I found out four hours later, when I reviewed the footage of Saturday Night Live. My tripod was on the bench, my ring light was clamped to the squat rack and my boyfriend Tanner was holding the back-up phone for the side angle. Tanner films all my content. He is not allowed to look at me.
The “joke” was about how women dress at the gym. I know it was about me, because everything is. So I did what any survivor would do. I went to my car and filmed myself crying. It took 11 takes, because the lighting in a Range Rover is unforgiving, and grief is no excuse for a bad shot. In the final cut, you can see a single tear land on my sports bra right over the logo, which clicks through to an affiliate link. My caption: “I’m literally shaking.”
Then I put on the shortest shorts I own, went back inside, and filmed my ass from three angles with the caption, “Does this outfit work for you, Shane Gillis?” I wanted to send him a message that my body is not for men. To make sure Shane got the message, I tagged him. Then I tagged every man I follow. Some people say my response proved his point. These people are rapists.

A senior at Harvard observes “a narrative emerging among young people that more than just consent is required to make a sex act ethical.”
“In the Cornell Daily Sun, a student says fraternities function as ‘a market, where women are seen as commodities.’”
“A Dartmouth contributor lambasts frat culture where brothers ‘humiliate and degrade’ and that teaches ‘men to treat women and each other like subhuman objects.’”
“The emerging picture is of a sexual ethic that cannot be satisfied simply by one liberal-autonomous agent assenting to the action of another. The new ethic requires upholding the dignity and respect of the human being involved. Respecting women is incompatible with drug-fueled orgies where the ‘shop’ is ‘open,’ regardless of how consensual said orgy may or may not be.”
“Political activism is a common source of mistranslation of scripture. Scripture is weaponized all along the political spectrum as a way to support partisan claims and shout down political opponents. As very few of these political uses of scripture reflect the authors’ actual viewpoints or intentions, most political deployment of scripture amounts to scripture not being translated correctly.” Read @DanEllsworthVA new article for ‘Alive and Intelligent.’👇

A New York jury just awarded $2 MILLION to a young woman who underwent a double mastectomy at 16 and later detransitioned.
The jury found her psychologist and surgeon liable for malpractice.
Her case alleged that serious mental-health issues, including depression, body dysmorphia, anorexia and autism-spectrum traits, were not adequately addressed before an irreversible procedure was performed on a minor.
Now watch what happens when someone like her speaks publicly.
For years we were told regret was exceedingly rare. We were told these procedures were necessary care. We were told questioning the process itself was dangerous.
But when a detransitioner stands up and says, “This happened to me,” suddenly she becomes the problem.
That is the epistemic tell.
When evidence supports the narrative, it is celebrated.
When evidence contradicts the narrative, the person carrying the evidence gets attacked.
A jury heard the testimony. A jury examined the evidence. A jury found malpractice. And a jury put the damages at $2 million.
You don’t protect vulnerable young people by demanding silence from the ones who came back and said, “I wish someone had slowed this down.”
You protect them by listening.

. @DanielDiMartino: "I'm tired of pretending that people can't afford" to have kids. "That's a lie!"
"It's about choice, within even married couples, to just not have as many kids...it's usually because of the DINK lifestyle.
Because of economic growth, actually we're bribing people not to have them. Because the truth is, now we have more choices of alternatives than we did 100 years ago. 100 years ago nobody could go on vacation to the Bahamas, nobody could go on vacation across the country, or had enough income to do anything.
...Today people have more alternative choices, and as a consequence, the opportunity cost of having children went up."

Our age needs men and women who have the courage to do good even when it comes at a cost. Draw close to those who are alone, support those who are weary, and seek out those who have drifted away. Have the courage to forgive, to begin again, and to engage in dialogue.

If women need to end their pregnancies in order to be successful then we have created a world in which female biology is treated as an obstacle to female success. We have created a world in where being a woman is a weakness, a problem, a barrier.
And if both these things are incompatible, if being a woman and success are mutually exclusive, then maybe we have gotten the definition of success wrong.
Women were not made wrong, our nature is not the problem. The problem is this idea that has pinned us against who we are. The problem is this idea that success must always be removed from all things inherently feminine.
