Amazing opportunity and group of collaborators!
PhD opportunities @BristolBiochem @SWBio_DTP including a curiosity @LabCollinson : a new look at a biochemistry classic -seeking an explanation for von Heijne’s ‘positive-inside rule’ Collaboration with Paul Curnow, Will Allen, @RobinCorey1 & @RobinHoodBS2 cpb-eu-w2.wpmucdn.com/blogs.…
Excellent reading from @HenneLab just in time for the weekend!
Our newest work on Snx14 is online at @PNASNews! Here, we dissect mechanisms underlying neurological disease SCAR20. We find Snx14 is an important ER protein required for ER-LD crosstalk & to help maintain the cellular lipid saturation profile. pnas.org/content/early/2020/…

Pleased to share our team’s most recent study, out now in @PNASNews! Through direct interactions with lipid droplets, lysosomes are constantly nibbling away at the fat within our liver cells! pnas.org/content/early/2020/… #NAFLD #MAFLD

This is some mind-blowing imaging here. Stunning FIB-SEM imaging segmented using deep learning to analyze the subcellular organization of liver tissue from lean vs. obese mice. Beautiful work from @gparlakgul, @apsarruda, @ghotamis et al. @HHMIJanelia
Happy to share our work. We have conducted a deep exploration of organelle architecture in liver tissue and related architectural regulation to function. @gparlakgul @ghotamis @HHMIJanelia biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/…

Another really interesting preprint, this one from @LabVanni using molecular dynamics simulations to reveal the mechanism whereby seipin gathers not only TAG (but also DAG!) to promote lipid droplet biogenesis at ER tubules.

Turns out these “tracks” are the microtubules running along the membrane in the AIS! Look at the small fluorescent blobs contacting the MTs on these correlative STORM/PREM images - these are ankyrin G tails! it's incredible to actually *see* this 🤩

New content online! The regulation of hepatic fatty acid synthesis and partitioning: the effect of nutritional state dlvr.it/RDsnrK
Metabolic imbalances between synthesis and autophagic catabolism of #LipidDroplets result in accumulation of fat in hepatocytes - a defining feature of #NAFLD. More in this review by Dr. Mark McNiven and @ryanjschulze. bit.ly/2lWxxQw

A not-to-be-missed opportunity for anyone interested in cytoskeletal dynamics of bacteria!
I will be looking for postdocs to continue our work on cell division in E. coli. If interested or know someone who might be interested let me know.
