With the crushing amount of car traffic that Cape Cod sees, it begs the question why we haven’t revived Amtrak’s previous Cape Codder service? There are so many license plates from NY and NJ, so why not enable them to take the train instead?
The Cape and Islands are lovely, but at what point is the traffic hassle just not worth it? Today's Starting Point wrestles with the big question. trib.al/QoCdKw3

Looks like a lot of people want this @MassGovernor and @MassLtGov.
It’s time to simplify and streamline environmental reviews for transit to make rail expansion easy. We shouldn’t have to worry about people suing to block transit projects over unfounded environmental “concerns”.
This is the train to Provincetown that they took from you.
Yes, this is real footage from an actual train running up Cape Cod to Provincetown.
Yes, Massachusetts and the federal government should absolutely revive the train all the way to Provincetown.
It would be a huge boon for national and international tourism as well as local travel. Much of it can be single-tracked and then double tracked for passing.
Replying to @ryanbebb
Impossible given the politics, but I wish they’d revive it all the way to P-Town. I’d love to take the train from Boston to Truro. #CapeCodderIrredentist
Reducing construction review timelines is one of the many things that Boston and the state of Massachusetts should be doing @ClrHenrySantana @RonDurk @MassGovernor

The housing shortage isn’t just about not enough homes, it’s about not having enough options in all of our communities.
People’s needs change over time, but many neighborhoods only offer one kind of housing. We need more choices in the places people actually want to live.

The transit community now needs to do what it does best: Show the MBTA the right path to take (EMUs).
the #MBTA costs are out for the BEMUs. they’re the most expensive rolling stock ever procured. but not just that—at roughly $25m/car ($525m npv over 21 usable cars), they are 2x more expensive than any other rail cars ever bought

I can’t believe the T is finally converting commuter rail service on the Needham Line to Orange Line service!
In July, service diversions will occur on Green Line & Red Line, & @MBTA_CR Needham Line. Projects include #TAccess upgrades, infrastructure revitalization, & bridge work.
*As a reminder, there are also Commuter Rail service changes for World Cup.

Just reminding everyone that Germany’s firetrucks exist
The $2M ladder truck responds to 3,000 calls/yr while Providence had 90 structure fires in 2025 with 7 ladder companies. So 13 structure fires per station. Meanwhile 2/3 of those are single family homes, not requiring a ladder.
So call it one true “ladder truck” fire every 3 months per truck. Aka 0.13% of all calls this new $2M truck will run. The rest will be 4-man crewed calls operating a ~65,000-75,00lb apparatus for auto accidents, medical emergencies, “good intent” calls and so on. Most of which involve waiting for an ambulance that’s slower to arrive because we just keep buying ladder trucks and don’t have enough ambulances. Yet almost no one finds this cycle problematic.
(Ironically the FD’s chosen photo is the truck posed blocking a highway. No tall buildings in sight)
We really need to come up with better solutions that don’t require sending a $2 million firetruck every time.

remember: when you don't build new luxury housing, luxury buyers outbid for down-market units and convert them.
this makes housing more expensive for everyone, and it's why building all housing (regardless of price) is critical to reduce prices
