Built PaperDesk (paper currency centralized exchange) & finally recorded a walkthrough of it. I also broke down the system architecture and how its running in the production. first time doing a facecam + technical breakdown video, so it's definitely not perfect lol. but fuck it, shipped. alright, we're starting :) gonna document me figuring shit out AI, startups, hackathons, systems, product, scaling, design & whatever rabbit hole i fall into next. not a programmer teaching you how to program. just nikhil figuring shit out in public. nikhilwho.in
lemme introduce myself since we’re almost 1.5k here :) hey, i’m Nikhil a final-year engineering student from Pune. i started programming in my 1st year. not one of those 6th-class WhiteHat Jr kids 😭 started with Java + DSA, then C, built some random endpoints, forgot half of it, made Arduino cars and other hardware stuff because i’m an electronics major. eventually got bored of hardware and went back to software. started doing DSA sheets, got bored again 💀 then went all-in on full-stack and started building shit. did a bunch of projects, client work, won 3 hackathons, failed LFX, got rejected from probably 10+ startup interviews, and also rejected a couple of offers myself when they just weren’t the right fit. eventually landed a remote engineering internship at a Bangalore startup from April–June 2026. somewhere along the way, i also got pretty involved in the Pune tech community organized things, met a ton of people, helped with community stuff. got bored of that too 💀 so now i mostly just build. these days i’m into full-stack + applied AI, because the AI hackathon scene is fucking crazy right now. but honestly, i’ll always be a web2 guy at heart. currently learning Rust too originally wanted to get into web3, but ended up liking Rust more for backend/systems. i come from a tier-3 college, so most of what i know came from building, shipping, failing, and figuring shit out myself. i’ll also start sharing more technical content here soon: build logs, engineering lessons, random things i learn, and probably rust too. if you’re looking to hire me for engineering roles, check out my work: nikhilwho.in [ btw this pic is from one of our Pune community events :) @CivoCloud sponsored us as a partner we reached out to @kunalstwt, who was their DevRel at the time, and made it happen. ] still early. just getting started.

was watching @mannupaaji’s custom style and grid video and got stuck on radial gradients and masking ended up playing around with them for a bit, and here are some of the things i came up with. they’re pretty basic, but it was fun experimenting with them :)

just shipped thred!! context that carries your work forward. Claude → Codex → Cursor → whatever comes next. thred gives every agent one shared memory for decisions, revisions, evidence, and unfinished work — so the next agent starts where the last one stopped. built on MCP. powered by temporal memory with HydraDB. no more re-explaining the codebase. no more lost decisions between sessions. just save → switch → resume. thred.fun built for Hack Hydra | Memory + Context Retrieval.

CEX Update #7 The exchange can now properly track an order through its lifecycle. Instead of just having an order sitting in memory, I added a state machine so orders move through defined states like OPEN → PARTIALLY_FILLED → FILLED/CANCELLED. 38 tests passing so far.

exchange update: so the matching engine has come a long way since my last update. - implemented iterative matching across multiple resting orders instead of stopping after a single match. - added support for partial and ful fills, correctly tracking remaining order quantity after every trade. - fully filled resting orders are now removed from the order book, while partially filled incoming orders are added back with their remaining quantity. - added matching logic that continues until the incoming order is completely filled or the next order no longer satisfies the matching policy. - implemented and tested price-time priority; better price gets priority first, and orders at the same price are matched using FIFO based on created time. - verified matching behavior from both sides of the book: incoming BUY orders against asks and incoming SELL orders against bids. - fixed a subtle order-book state bug where a fully filled sell order wasn't being removed correctly, which caused the matching engine to see an already-filled order again. github: github.com/rudraprasaaad/xch…
exchange update: - implemented removal flow of fully filled resting orders after successful trades. - added partially filled incoming limit orders back to the order book with their remaining quantity. - added test cases where matching engine will allow an incoming order to continue matching against multiple resting orders until it is an fully filled or no further matches are possible. next i'll complete iterative matching across multiple resting orders and implement price time priority

Replying to @slicebank
@slicebank I have raised a ticket sighting my concern that I have mistakenly send 21,000/- and have raised a ticket for the transaction to be reversed! Its kind of urgent and till now I haven't yet received any update on the same from the customer support ticket! @RBI

nmemo.cloud won !! HydraDB × Connectors Hackathon by @hydra_db Thanks @iHarnoorSingh for selecting nmemo as one of the winners
everyone says you don't need to code anymore. Our hackathon says otherwise. we brought engineering roots back to hackathons, the results are here. challenge was, use 3 connectors minimum among 56 we support and show they prioritize, deduplicate when same task is visible on linear, github, email, slack etc. we say 20+ takes on engineering taste: builders want decisions to be transparent, easy to evaluate, and easy to trace in unique ways. Congrats to everyone who brought great engineering taste with @hydra_db @RajGharat676295 @HarishKotra @Roan0i @varun23twt @nick_realm_01 @karthikponna19 @KapoorJanesh @mikeflag43 @DrawsyAI @iamyt

exchange update: - implemented order execution by updating remaining quantities after a successful trade. - introduced RemainingOrderQuantity to preserve the original order quantity while tracking execution progress. - added support for partial fills by executing the minimum remaining quantity between the incoming and resting orders. - expanded the test suite to cover full fills, partial fills, and execution behavior. next, i'll remove fully filled orders from the order book and handle resting the remaining quantity of partially filled incoming orders. github.com/rudraprasaaad/xch…

worked on my exchange matching engine today. - implemented matching policy to evaluate whether two orders are eligible to match. - added support for both bid-side and ask-side price checks - gave the OrderPrice for price comparisons - created an OrderBuilder to keep tests concise. - reduced decision-making inside the matching engine by pushing it to matching policy. next, i'll start executing trades by updating order state and handling filled quantites. github.com/rudraprasaaad/xch…
